The Rangers never had superstars on their team in my time watching them until this iteration of the team and i've realized now offensive big boom boom numbers are not all as they're cracked up to be. Kakko's defense and offense > Panarin's theater arts major.
Management has never understood that "team" trumps "star power" every time.

Maybe it's time to try to the Brendan Smith position swap with Panarin and see if maybe he's as bad at defense as a forward as he is good at offense as a defenseman

I’m on board but it’s a little more complicated than this. You have guys like McDavid that dominate all facets of the game. Then you have guys like, I dunno, Marian Gaborik who are quiet for long stretches but make the most of their opportunities and still compile points.

And then you have Panarin, who still compiles points, but instead of being dominant or just quiet spends most of his time actively hurting the team and game flow with giveaways and missed nets. He’s a very unique superstar.
