Ekman-Larsson is killing them on the PP. Too many top guys for the Kings have nothing to show against the Coyotes. Muzzin and Lucic don't have a point. Gaborik is barely there. The Kings have scored more than 2 goals only once in the 4 games, while the Coyotes haven't scored fewer than 3 goals in any of the 4 games. The majority of Arizona's goals have come from the space in between the faceoff circles and the blueline. A lot of screens, a lot of just float the puck toward the net.

It's the Coyotes speed. They've forechecked and forces turnovers by the Kings defense, or just in the defensive zone. The Kings really haven't had an answer for that yet. They were up in the 3rd of that 3rd game, but couldn't stop the Coyotes when they needed to.

Big game. Need the 2 points.

Did a whole post on that today.

From an execution standpoint their powerplay has been so good against the Kings it hurts. Gotta stay out of the box if they can.

this game is a minefield, many thing could go wrong.

Kin-Vinny-Brown
Clifford-Shore-Lewis

and this is one of the things that could go extremely wrong. clifford needs games, but please not tonight, not yet

also, its' playoff calculation already. imagine that lak looses this one and they meet in the playoffs with a 1-4 record. gah. just don't give the coyotes that kind of testosterone blessing.

but i also do believe that kopitar, lucic and gaborik will have a good game tonight, they are a ticking bomb and the circumstances are pretty good for them to show off.

gkg!

I would welcome a LA Arizona playoff matchup even if LA loses 7 rip tonight.

Let's see how divey the Yotes feel tonight.

Edit: tried not to look due to history but at least we have an interesting set of refs tonight as per http://scoutingtherefs.com/2016/02/11730/tonights-nhl-referees-linesmen-2216/: Gord Dwyer and a bunch of younger guys (Trevor Hanson with 69 NHL games and the linesmen with 110 and 69 as well). Was just praying to not see Meier after the Lucic thing

it's ok to be optimistic, but on what basis here? lak is having a hard time against them this season, and it's not just "they're maybe lucky" as jason mentioned in the end of his latest, they play very opportunistic and they know how to play opportunistic against almost anyone. i give them respect, i think they are tough, a lot of talent there.

ps. jason, nice one.

in 2012 we were 1-3 vs. the Coyotes. I think we remember how that went.
In 2014, we were 1-3-1 vs. Anaheim.

And so on.

Yeah I don't think Arizona is as bad as many say and they should get stronger throughout the year as their youth develop and gel--they'll be in the race till the bitter end.

However--we SHOULD be winning these games. In our games vs. Arizona this year, we're at 205 CF, 135 against--that's about 66% CF. We're getting TWO THIRDS of the even strength shot attempts. The problem is we're not breaking through with scoring at 5v5 and they're demolishing us on special teams. At 5v5, we're at 103 shots and only 4 ES goals--3.8% shooting percentage (AKA about the same as Dustin Brown this year, for perspective). We need to do SOMETHING to break through, but these stats are why I'm not worried vs. Arizona in general, Their goaltending can't possibly keep up at 96% under that onslaught nor are we going to be continually awful on special teams (especially in a 7-game series), nor are OUR goalies going to put up an ES Save percentage of 87%.

that 3.8% dustin brown is creepy. it must go back to normal, well, i guess. but, arizona: i've watched maybe 10 games this season, 4 of them against lak, and i've noticed how they can adapt to almost any opponent and any game. it seems like they don't play their own system, they're just adapting and playing the opponents weaknesses. they are smart and talented and very opportunistic in this regard, obviously with some good coaching behind. and lak can struggle against such teams without identity, or better, with a fluid identity. that's what i've noticed so far.

that's why i think this game is so important. lak must find a medicine against that plague, not so much because of 2 points - i'm not worried about that and overall standings - but just to make the terrain for the possible playoffs. losing again and again against the same opponent can make dicks soft, and imagine the following scenario: 1. lak loses tonight 2. lak plays arizona in po and loses the first game 3. the **** starts freezing in the ass. please, just avoid that.

There are less penalties called in the playoffs so less chance for the Coyotes PP to click, the grind of the year will wear on Arizona's rookies more than the more seasoned kings lineup, plus in a 7 game series LA is a very tough out as they play so physical it would wear on any team.
My only area of concern is LA's lack of ability to hold onto 3rd period leads this year. It concerns me against any team though, not just Arizona.

I agree. I think two things--1. Tippett has proven to be one of the most adaptable coaches in the league bar none and 2. I think the Coyote's style is 'fluid' to say the least, but it brings me back to what Babcock said about "good teams don't trick you, good teams just beat you."

Do we need the two points and to stop Arizona from wrecking the Pacific? Absolutely. But I posted a number of reasons above why I won't lose sleep if we don't. They're smoke and mirrors propped up by unsustainable goaltending. They may still be a playoff team, but they're not a team that "owns" the Kings by any standpoint but regular season points.

Woo Kings hockey!

I'll say 6-5 Kings and Lucic punches a member of the coyotes medical staff. (not Dr. Doan)

Hey, big shocker, no Connauton in the lineup.

Seen talk elsewhere on the internet that the Coyotes need to challenge Lucic....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POKE THE BEAR

no thank you...I don't want Lucic to lose his temper and cost the kings by Arizona getting a PP goal.

I meant that I read an article saying they need to challenge him to fight. I LOVE when our guys are emotionally invested. Seems like most teams are smart enough to not engage us in that way, though.

Clifford's play this season does not warrant automatic insertion back into the lineup. He will be given a chance once someone has a bad game or takes a dumb penalty, because Sutter loves to rotate his bottom six, and if he plays well he sticks and if not he goes back to the in and out of the lineup blender that Nolan, Shore, AA have been in all season.

I can't disagree more. He was easily the best bottom 6 forward at the time of his injury . He deserves to return to his regular shift.
