GDT: Game 50/82 Blues Vs Dallas 6PM CST FDSNMW

THIRTY-THREE SHOTS ON GOAL IN A SHUTOUT LOSS BUT WE BLAME THE GOALTENDER?

I put that in caps for a reason. This team needs to acquire quality players to fill the holes or it won't matter WHO is in goal.

The PP is trash, the PK is trash, you got players in the lineup who are dragging major heel like they're either injured or disinterested... I'm sorry, I don't like Monty. I get he doesn't have a lot to work with, but he has a lot more to work with than just trash and it's unacceptable that this team plays so poorly, so unfocused and so far below their skillsets. If this is the future Army is envisioning, we are in big trouble and the thing is, I believe alot more in Army than Monty. Monty has a lot of work to do to figure this out if he's really The Guy. Are we just going to continue bringing on players who come in and tear up the world and then slowly dwindle into the mediocrity of the lineup and not bench them and bring up folks hungry to play? For the Blues, This Is The Way?

As for Binny y'all can shit talk all you want but when it's playoff time, he conquers. The Avs are still having nightmares about that and they won the Cup.

Well said. Honestly it doesn't even matter who's in net until the team solves its core issues, but we've all seen that Binner is good enough when it counts.

I want to give Monty an extended chance to show what he's got, but I am cautiously pessimistic (is that a thing?) about his coaching abilities. With Dallas and Boston all he had to do was not screw things up. Both rosters were loaded with talent and were ready to compete when he was there. And honestly, his record with Dallas was only slightly better than his record with the Blues so far. It's mostly that one magical Boston regular season that his reputation as a coach is built on. Also, the fact that Boston cut him loose so soon after that amazing season suggests there were issues behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

However, he's never had to coach a rebuilding/re-tooling team that is light on high-end talent like the Blues are. I worry that he's popular because of his personality, which admittedly is easy to be drawn to, rather than his actual abilities to coach a hockey team. Five years is a big commitment to a guy who's still relatively inexperienced as an NHL coach. I'm willing to give him a pretty long leash as I don't think this roster is truly playoff caliber, but the results so far haven't been great.

Then again, the players aren't off the hook either. The list of players who have exceeded expectations this year is pretty short.

I thought Bolduc acquitted himself well in his first game with Thomas/Buch. He was strong on the forecheck and hard on pucks, helping win battles and re-establish possession. He made a really nice area pass to Buch that should have lead to Thomas scoring into an open net, but Thomas has been fighting everything recently and shanked it. Bolduc put himself in good spots when he didn't have the puck, trying to find space to get lost and find his shot, but not staying static when the look wasn't there. I think that line looked the best it has in over a month with him on it, and I hope they continue to give him an opportunity there.

I would agree. He didn't look out of place on that line. The frustrating thing is we played well enough to win. We rang two shots off the crossbar (Neighbours and Broberg I believe) and we had more than enough chances to score 2-3 goals at least. Schenn fanned on a few chances and I seem to recall Thomas, Buch, Joseph and Torpo failing to convert pretty decent chances as well. Combine that with an impotent power play and it was one of the more frustrating games of the year no doubt.

I would like to see what our win percentage would be this year had we been getting league average Goaltending in all those stats. Surprised Binny has been this bad.

Would we be a playoff team?
Goal 1 was on him last night. Number two was just a wicked across the grain thing no one stops, unless it hits them before they get into position. That said, zero goals against DeSmith is nonsense.

You can't give a guy a breakaway and then say it's the goalies fault it went in. He made a bad play on it sure but so did every one else on the ice that lead to that chance anyway.
