Big Game Story: FOURTH SEED STILL UP IN AIR ? Final game of the four-game set and final game of the regular season, so far the home team has won each contest. Even though the Sharks and Kings are both in the playoffs, the Western Conference bracket is far from settled. Both these teams have 57 points, the fourth-seeded St. Louis Blues have 58, but the Kings have more regulation/overtime wins than the other two. So all they need to do to move into fourth place is tie the Blues on points, while the Sharks would have to win and depend on a regulation loss by the Blues, in which case the Sharks and Kings would meet again.
The KINGS need to remind The SHARKS, KINGS FANS and THEMSELVES which team just won a Stanley Cup Championship. GO KINGS GO !!!

Forward & Team Captain DUSTIN BROWN said:
"I was disappointed, obviously, at this juncture of the season you want to be out there with your teammates, especially trying to secure home ice. But it is what it is, right? You’re just trying to make a wall play there. I have two hands on my stick. I’m expecting physical confrontation. My elbow’s out before he comes in. He’s pretty low. They agreed with a lot of what I said. I mean, it was an elbow right in his head, but it’s not like I know where he’s coming in at. I’m more focused about the puck at that point and knowing there’s going to be some type of physical pressure on my backside.
Who knows, what the NHL is thinking … they’ve got to deal with a lot of different scenarios. Like I said, it is what it is. I think no games would’ve been better, but I think every player will say that.
I think it’s disappointing, from a physical standpoint, after the suspension, I’ll have missed six games in maybe eight years, and the other four games were my kids [births]. Especially for the way I play, it’s just a matter of getting back out there. I don’t worry about records or anything. Kopi probably beat that the way he takes care of himself. He’s a pretty durable guy for the way he plays, too
It’s disappointing not to be playing in these games tonight and on Saturday, especially when they mean so much for home ice, but at the end of the day, I’ll be back for Game 1. As a player, as a team, that’s when the fun really begins."
Forward & Alt Captain ANZE KOPITAR said:
"We knew they were going to come out strong, and obviously they’re fighting for a playoff position, which makes it really important for them. I thought we weathered the storm pretty good, got the first goal, but then just couldn’t sustain the pressure and they were able to capitalize on a few chances.” (On how “strange” it was to not have Dustin Brown on the ice) … “It’s been a while since we didn’t play together. It’s a little strange, but you pretty much have to work with what you’ve got. Did we miss him? Yeah, he’s one of our top players and one of the leaders on the team, but it is what it is.” (On whether the recent road play is a concern heading towards the playoffs) … “No. I mean, once the playoffs start it’s a totally different story. Obviously it’s not encouraging to throw away points like that late in the year, but regardless – winning games, not winning games, we’re going to have to get to a whole different level during the playoffs. We all know that.” (On the confidence that the team can get to that level) … “I mean, it’s no secret what we have to do and which things make us more successful when you’re on the ice. We know what we’ve got to do, and it’s a matter of going out and doing it.” (On what encourages him and what worries him at this point of the season) … “It’s not very good going into the playoffs with a losing streak, so the last home game’s going to be that much more important. We’re going to have to get ready. We’re going to have to get focused again, and we’ll go from there."
Defenseman DREW DOUGHTY: said:
(On whether it was it a challenge playing a pair of desperate teams back to back) … “Yeah, it was. Before the game, we were prepared for that. We knew that they were both going to be playing desperate. Even though they were, we should’ve been doing the same thing. It should be a desperate situation to get that home ice advantage, because that’s huge just being able to play back at Staples and sleeping in your own beds and things like that. It’s a huge advantage. Even though they were playing desperate, we should have been to.” (On whether playing desperate teams in a row prepares L.A. well for the playoffs) … “Yeah, I think so. I think that last night especially was a poor effort. I thought tonight we were a little better. We still weren’t great, though. We need to get used to playing those type of games. We were good at themlast year, but it doesn’t make any difference because it’s a new season, new playoffs coming up. We need to step up our game and get back to focusing on the right things.” (On whether Brown’s suspension was “ overly harsh” and not having Brown on the ice) … “I don’t know. I saw the hit after, and it was a close one. I think it just kind of had to do with maybe some other close calls he’s had in the past. I think that was probably the biggest reason to why he got two games. But we definitely miss him. He’s our captain. He leads on and off the ice. He leads in the physical department always, and against a team like Detroit [that] really [isn’t] a physical team, he could’ve helped us a lot tonight."
Head coach DARRYL SUTTER: said:
(On Dustin Brown’s hit on Jason Pominville) … “I was disappointed with what the ruling was. There was no intent or anything. You’re talking about a right-handed forward taking the puck on the boards, and he’s had two hands on his stick. You know what? Brownie’s already said it. You guys read the quote. What do I have to say? Exactly what he said is right. There was no intent or anything. The player ran into his elbow. He didn’t go looking for the player or anything like that.” (On Dustin Brown’s linemates adjusting to playing without him) … “Well, you don’t replace Brownie in your lineup. But you know what? I look at it the other way. He’s got two games off. Get some rest for playoffs.” (On whether seeding doesn’t matter in the NHL playoffs “these days” ) … “I think since the salary cap came into place, that is ‘these days’, and that…makes everything an even playing field. Everybody has a chance. It’s funny, because even coming into Detroit…everybody’s talking about 21 years the Detroit Red Wings made the playoffs. Well, what’s the biggest accomplishment is what they’ve done since the salary cap. It’s not just about making the playoffs. It’s about what you do once you get there.” (On what Detroit did well in the third period to “carry the intensity” ) … “I don’t think they did anything different than they did the whole game. We came rolling in here on our private jet at two this morning. I’m sure they had a good sleep last night.” (On Jonathan Quick’s performance) … “Both goalies both games – last game and tonight – were outstanding for us, and that’s what we want. It was awesome.” (On whether Los Angeles struggled to match Detroit’s intensity) … “I just answered that question. I thought we played hard and played really well. It’s tough to win. We’re not scoring many goals right now. I don’t think that’s got to do with intensity.” (On the biggest difference between the team on the road and at home) … “Just strictly, if you look statistically – and it wasn’t the last two nights – but if you’re going to over the course of a 24-game tough schedule…you might as well just mail it in, right? Just because of your schedule and time zones and that. But if you break it down now, your road schedules over, clearly the difference is goals against if you look at it. Just do it. It’s about 30 or 40 goals different. So it’s significant. [Reporter: Is it a defensive breakdown?] No. You think it is? We’re seventh or eighth or ninth in the league in scoring, so I don’t think it’s ‘defensive breakdowns’. Your road schedule is broken down this year because of the way this condensed schedule is. There are some tough parts of it. If you look at parts of it when Quicker struggled earlier in the year or when our penalty killing struggled, it’s not like it’s a defensive breakdown. If that was [it], you would not be a good goals against team. There’s been different areas that have hurt us during the year on the road, and the last couple or three games on the road quite honest I think we’ve played really well. We just haven’t scored any goals.” (On Dustin Penner being a healthy scratch) … “Yeah. He was tired last night, so I was going to assume he’d be tired tonight.” (On whether he has a similar feeling about this year’s team as last year’s team) … “Last year we were hanging on for the eighth spot, and we clinched sixth two or three games ago. So that’s the only difference.” (On the team’s play heading into the playoffs compared to last year) … “It’s probably really similar. Getting Greene back – and he’s struggled a little bit, so it’s good that he’s got a few games under his belt. Robyn came at the deadline, so that’s a new player. Obviously Dustin Penner’s had a tough time. Last year it looked like he was taking a step up at this time of the year, so we felt good about putting him on that line. Right now we’ve got to make some decisions. It’s a different team. We’ll see what happens the next few days."

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Sharks fan coming in peace,

Just curious on who you guys wanna play in the 1st round. I know the Kings have had the Blues number for a while, and I know Sharks fans on here want to avoid the Blues.

Anyways, good luck guys

Just win and let the rest of the league take care of itself. Can't control what you can't control.

Don't really care. The one thing most wanted to avoid was being the #5 with the Sharks as the #4, but since the Blues have a layup of a game tonight against the Hawks (No Toews, Kane or Hossa), they will probably get home-ice. Whether it's Vancouver or St. Louis, if the Kings are right, I don't think it matters.

Ellerby in for Greene tonight.

No explanation. I didn't catch the last game, was Greene injured?

Ugh, no Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook and Hijammerson for Chicago today. Looks like 5 or 6

Certainly Chicago's prerogative to play it this way. They earned it.

The Kings didn't earn the right to open at home with their lazy performance in several games over the last week.

The Kings have no one to blame but themselves. They were in control of their own destiny with regard to home ice in the first round at the beginning of the week. They're getting what they deserve for mailing it in this week.

Kings don't care about Home ice, or they would have showed up to the games.

Those were two of the most uninspired games I have ever seen this Kings core play...

man that looks like an ugly line up. I do trust in sutter, but why is stoll pour 2nd and Richards our 3rd, why is ellerby in and a-mart sitting, and why is toffoli on the fourth. Here's hoping they prove sutter right tonight.

Agreed after the wild game, and the lashing that sutter gave it was very disappointing to see them come out weak against Detroit.
Time to nut up.
