The JT Compher drop off has been shocking.

Maybe wishful thinking, but wonder if a playoff team really really desperate for a center would want him in March. I'd love to get out of his contract, especially with Marco looking good and Danielson almost ready.

Not every player wins a Cup. What makes him more special than guys like McDavid or Mathews who also haven’t won a Cup? Matthews hasn’t even come close.
Agreed - Larkin isn't special...While he's very good - he's nowhere near McDavid and Matthews.

Just putting things into perspective; Larkin in his late 20s, only 5 games of playoffs on his resume (2015/2016 with Dats and Hank), it may be a few seasons until the team is good enough to consistently make the playoffs (fingers crossed), and then if we're lucky a few more seasons where we'll see Detroit compete for the Conference Final and possible the Cup.

So yeah that's like 6 to 8 years from now at the pace we're going :baghead:

Why was Soderblom so good looking? Outside of his size next to Kane/Rasmuseen at one point, I barely noticed him(also a catch 22). * No one wants to be noticed because they're clearly bad. It's one game too, hopefully Wings keep him up awhile honestly if he's not looking out of place.

This was a game where Wings needed that other Center/star to show up outside Larkin/Raymond. Lyon had a good game, defense was 'alright', offense was pretty woeful and boring game.
Some things I noticed on Elmer that he lacked 2 years ago, his skating is notably better, his backing checking was pretty decent given no real practice time (he was first forward back several times, despite being on the forecheck) and he was quite disruptive on several occasions, which will only improve as he gets used to the NHL pace.

He did not look out of place on the 4th line (I suspect he was paired with Ras, as that was a former line-mate), but he did look a little like a deer in headlights a couple of times watching others,

My only "bad" notice was he tended to get caught out on the ice too long sometimes, but that will get better with practice too. I think the coach just let him loose for the night to see what natural tendencies he has.

Hopefully they keep him up long enough to get in some real practice time and we'll see how he adjusts.

I could see T-Mc giving him some time on 1LW when they move Kasper to 2C on one of the evaluation shuffles. I think too soon to do it on the next shuffle, but never say never.

Something is rotten at the core with this team

Gonna take a McLellan miracle to turn this into anything
I'm not sure rotten is the correct word. However there are issues. Specifically 3 better Domen needed, and 2 better centers to start. Yzerman needs to make a trade. Our first round pick could hold significant value this year if we're not making the playoffs so it might garner a very good return to bolster the middle.

The JT Compher drop off has been shocking.

Half point per game and a +1 in his last 10. Edit: I looked at the wrong set of games when compiling this. As pointed out he has 1 point in his last 10 games.

On the season he is a positive player and just a tick below half point per game.

Sure he has had a bit of step back this season but Im not sure why people rag on him. He is a solid 40-50 point two way player.

He's definitely taken a step back. He has 1 point in his last 10 games and is at .43 PPG on the season. He can't win a faceoff to save his life, is on pace for 36 points and is signed for 3 more seasons.

Compher has sunk into Copp territory, minus the ability to take faceoffs.

Ahh Confession time. I was looking at the wrong set of games when adding up his recent performance for my post. Thanks for correcting

No denying he's taken a step back but does this 46 game stretch completely negate what was a solid year last season? As a Red Wing his combined numbers track out to 45 points/82 games which is unspectacular but solid.

Is he? I am thinking it looks like he needs another full season in GR. He has been pointless in 11 of his last 14 games.

I think so. He's playing heavy heavy minutes and still doing well. I know his points haven't been there lately but every time I watch him he's impacting the game, and he's ahead of Kasper points and role wise from Kasper's last year.

Noah Cates has a nice defensive game. He did well matching up against Larkin at various points.

Too bad Veleno or Ras haven't been able to develop out that part of their game.

Only positive thing I'll say about the Flyers, in a world full of Staals and Reimers, be a Gritty.

With Compher hopefully it's a lull/nagging injury and not a downward trend.

As a team I think it's really been failure by committee in terms of secondary scoring. It's not that anyone one forward has been awful, but collectively Tarasenko, Ras, Compher, Copp, Veleno, and Gustafson have all been disappointments.

Also not trying to tell anyone to force a smile and losing is ok, and this team does need some surgery. But the good news as pointed out by @schuelma24 it's not a young guys problem.

Also like to point out that the Habs 2nd line center is Kirby Dach who has less points than Copp and Compher. I mean really look at their team, look around and go what hell is happeneing lol. Kudos to them because that defense is brutal. They have given up more goals against than us!
I don’t think the Habs will be relevant by next month. Team is overachieving like crazy and the media up here is already putting a boat load of pressure on them.

I think they still plan to be sellers too at the deadline. Kind of like how the wings ended up trading Hronek a few years back.

Detroit needs to piece together a nice winning streak. The entire eastern conference is neck and neck. Will be a fun race down the stretch.

I think some line up changes are needed. Time to start the blender and find some new chemistry. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, line up should be made up of duos/pairs with the 3rd players being rotated in. Best way to find/spark some chemistry.

-Eventhough he did score, I hate the way Chiarot plays. Most of his plays with the puck are complete trash.
-Holl playing everynight is so depressing.
-Compher has been pretty bad or invisible all season.
-Tank does next to nothing out there. Why on earth is he out there in OT, as he doesn't create offence during the regular game, why would he now in OT?

Only good things from last nights game, was I think Soderblom looked quite good and Seider continues to be the only bright spot night in night out playing with bargain basement partners.
