Larkin is 29 this year and it’s not impossible that his best years are behind him. He hasn’t looked nearly as sharp this year, even during the win streak.
The chances of Larkin winning the Cup with this team is near zero…If he ever wants to win it - better ask for a trade sooner than later

Was this game booooooring or what.
This season is over.

There are 2 or 3 games I didn't like who they chose to start in net the game last 6 games.
Sitting Veleno who was probably the most productive player 5 on 5 last 10ish games is a braindead move.
7 games winning streak and now 1 win in last 5 and we are back where we were with Lalonde.

On this road trip the wings have scored the wings have scored 4 ES goals. They were lucky they scored 3 PP goals vs the cats and won the game. Even during the 7 game winning streak the wings were not impressive 5 on 5. I think I mentioned it somewhere during the streak and I mentioned Veleno was the lone player on the roster producing 5 on 5. Yzerman and Mclellan decide to scratch Veleno.
And now there are another 4 tough games coming, 3 at home. They have to get at least 6 points, that entails they win vs habs. Cause if they lose to the habs, the 6 points after that won't help.
If they lose vs habs, the season is officially over.

Did not like the OT line deployments.

Would have much rather seen anyone but Tarasenko on in OT.

Elmer should have been on at least once… thought he had a very good game. His skillset is made for a skills competition…

Why was Soderblom so good looking? Outside of his size next to Kane/Rasmuseen at one point, I barely noticed him(also a catch 22). * No one wants to be noticed because they're clearly bad. It's one game too, hopefully Wings keep him up awhile honestly if he's not looking out of place.

This was a game where Wings needed that other Center/star to show up outside Larkin/Raymond. Lyon had a good game, defense was 'alright', offense was pretty woeful and boring game.

lowered expectations.

I was happy with the guy. I thought he skated well, looked a little tentative and the lack of practicing with the wings stood out. I thought he watched his linemates too much, trying to figure out what was going on at any given moment. But he was willing forechecker, when he got the puck on his stick he wasn't stupid with it, and I didn't think he was bad defensively. I liked him more than Fischer, who seemed about as effective but was 8 inches and 60 lbs smaller. Yeah, at some point just give me the bigger guy.

Nothing about Elmer said scoring line, but I think there is definitely something there for a bottom6 guy. I don't think we could have said that a year or two ago.

boo. I liked the effort though. A crash & bang muddy slog. Teams evenly-matched IMO.

yeah, at some point you have to give credit to Philly for sticking to their game and just uglying it up. The Wings had a really hard time completing passes and the puck seemed to be really lively.

Seider has been real bad these 3 games man. Looks like Lilja in the offensive zone and pucks are going right through him defensively. PK falls heavily on his shoulders too. That’s a lot of minuses
Just gonna say I don't think I could disagree more. I think Seider looks great out there and is making things happen in all 3 zones. I think if he had a cup caliber team around him, he'd be getting Norris talk.

Not sure I understand the criticisms of Larkin either. He looks good to my eye test. At the top or near the top of the team in Corsi%, Fenwick%, xGF%, SCF%. 14 points in 10 games in January since the team has got their shit together

Was shocked to see the Senators only have 1 more goal than us 5on5. Some of you need to chill though how were you not prepared for a fall back. Montreal's rebuild is better and all this other stuff. How can you know that right now. We really measuring rebuilds by 5 standings points?

This is also not a shot at the Habs I like their pieces but damn, people still act like this is all the prospects up and busted.

I'd also add that unlike last year, the roster is getting younger. Ed and Kasper are now regulars and part of the core. Aljo might be. Berggren is playing (though I'm still skeptical he's a long term piece...) and now Elmer is getting run.

We aren't very good, but basically our 28 and under players are by far our best players and 2-3 are probably coming up next year.

Also not trying to tell anyone to force a smile and losing is ok, and this team does need some surgery. But the good news as pointed out by @schuelma24 it's not a young guys problem.

Also like to point out that the Habs 2nd line center is Kirby Dach who has less points than Copp and Compher. I mean really look at their team, look around and go what hell is happeneing lol. Kudos to them because that defense is brutal. They have given up more goals against than us!

The JT Compher drop off has been shocking.

That one bothers me because you know he’s a guy who cares. Maybe he’ll bounce back next year?

Copp can disappear. We won’t need him next season. Holl, Motte, Gus, Petry, Fischer, Rasmussen and Tank can all go as well.

I hope Yzerman makes that happen so we can reinvent the lower half of this lineup. Our current depth players are trash.
