Wow. Parenteau made that look easy

Terrible way to end the season.

That was the single worst shootout I have ever witnessed in this professional league. Anyway, Despite whatever happened this season, I'm still unbelievably proud of the boys for playing so well over the last few years. Hopefully this wont be the last time we see them in Arizona.

We've seen this before. Once his usual move stops working, he has no idea what to do.

I'm willing to bet all 30 of his SO goals have been the patent move, zero when he changes it up. Yes, everyone knows it's coming, but if Vrbata is able to execute it cleanly, it's very difficult for goalies to recover once he does that slick sweep to his backhand. I think I've only seen it stopped once, and that was a couple weeks ago in St. Louis when Elliot just managed to get a stick on it. But even then, Vrby beat Elliot with his move to tie the game late in the 3rd.

In short, having the move work half the time (and that's conservative, I'd wager it's more 2/3 of the time) is better than doing something that almost never works.

I think it was in Tippett's first year with the Coyotes, he scored on a forehand shot in the shootout. It was pretty surprised, but also relieved because it was a pretty important game (for some reason I want to say it was against Detroit). But yeah, the vast majority of his SO goals are his usual backhand shot.

My issue with Vrbata continuing to do the same move is goalies seem to have (finally) caught on, and don't even bother playing the possible forehand shot. They know what he's going to do. He needs at least one or two other moves - even if one of them is just ripping it top shelf with no deke, just to keep goalies honest. Even Datsyuk has said he occasionally does exactly that, just to keep goalies on their toes.

Awesome game tonight, the kind of game I would show to someone who was new hockey. Respect to the team ... here's to next season.

What was up with the last 5 minutes of the first? Go from up 2 to down 1. Kind of like the whole season. Haven't felt good about OT or shootouts all year. Guess my expectations were raised in Tippett's first year when we seemed to always win the SO.

Glad I got to go to the game. Hope we're still talking Coyotes hockey in the fall.

I saw your giant Shane Doan head from my section.

I've been off continent for the last couple of years. Haven't been to a game since Oct '11. Went Wednesday and today. I forgot how amazing live hockey is. I had way too much fun. Got to see Patrick Lauder sing one last anthem and a first time I can remember crowd sung anthem. Tonight was a great way to reminisce. Came out strong, blew a lead, fought back, got physical, battled through, played great and terrible. A bit of everything from the last decade. Hope we'll all be back next year, but if not, the best to all of you. Def got a little dust in the eyes in the upper deck...
