To me that shows how our record is mostly luck. Not being able to win 2 games in a row for half a season is Ducharme-like.
It’s definitely a fluky record but we could’ve been going down a bad rabbit hole where the team just looks like a bunch of losers after several years of only losing. We don’t look like that. Our core isn’t great and I don’t even know if it’s good at this point but they’re looking like they ready to compete at least sometime soon. Doesn’t look like we’ll have a mini franchise with this group of players sadly but I don’t think trying to tank at this point is going to get us a player that would change that anyways.

Am I the only one that likes Barron around here? lol

You're not alone, he's 22 years old.. people just need to be patient with him.

Barron has put up 27 points in 78 games with us while spending a lot of time on our second pair this year against tougher matchups. Almost all of his points are at ES too as any PP minutes he gets are on the second unit spent with whatever plug forwards we have left.

The players in this draft from 2-15 are pretty similar. This isn't last year where you had Fantilli and Carlsson level players after the first pick. Tanking in a year like this is pretty whatever.
I do agree that there's quite a drop off after Celebrini (although I wouldn't say similar up to 15), but you'd still want the best odds for Celebrini.

I mean as mentioned, besides Covid we haven't made the playoffs since 2017-2018. Injecting one of those top 5 forwards for this draft in the top 6 would do wonders. Anyways, I'm not as upset as others on here, but we definitely need to add a high end forward. If we want to trade the pick and package it for one then great, but it needs to be for a proven player.

It's nice when you are competing for the playoffs, but as per the management we are rebuilding so it's just further putting us in no man's land. We can make fun of the Sens/Sabres/Ducks/Jackets but we haven't made the playoffs since 2017-2018 outside of the Covid rules which was extremely favourable on our behalf.
I try to focus on my team, the other teams are just fun to ridicule.
You are right this Habs organization has been mediocre for many years. To build a team around a star goalie and not building the offense and D was and is a losing strategy. Habs fans deserve better, I think Hughes has a plan and is slowly implementing it.

gotta admit im blanking on the meaning of the thread title, anyone care to enlighten me?
I think someone took over the gdt for someone else who had not gotten around to it and then changed the title so no-one felt left out. It’s love your fellow hab fan day in Slafkovsky land. edit - threads merged

I understand what you’re saying 100%. But it’s not Hughes fault we didn’t rebuild in 2018. They’re rebuilding so far with what we have to work with. And we had two tank years with top picks that are question marks. I’d rather they learn how to win close games then create a losing culture at this point.

When these young players have meaningful games to prepare for that's a very important part of the rebuild. I want these guys to win.
Last night three young players scored goals and young Struble was on the ice in the last minute...thats important for the rebuild.

The funny thing is, he’s only minus 2. I thought it’d be much worse. Once he works on his decision making speed, I think he’ll be fine. That’s really where his biggest gaffes originate. I’m sure opposing teams know that and have exploited it. I thought last night, he seemed to be making quicker, safer plays in his end.

My will to tank is non-existent for this game. It might sound traitorous, but if I was told that losing against Ottawa for the season guaranteed the 1OA pick, I'd still cheer for a season sweep. Cannot stand the current iteration of Ottawa players. Toronto players are soft losers that whine, Ottawa players are soft losers that whine while also diving and being dirty whenever they can get away with it.

They're HF posters who had competing GDTs. We can only have one GDT, so they're sharing the "credit", so to speak.
This is where our tax dollars go to...
