GDT: GAME 44 - Saturday, January 11th, 2025 - Winnipeg Jets vs. Colorado Avalanche - 6:00pm CST - SN1 - CJOB/Power 97

It ticks me off Colorado gets to play the Jets on another btb. A division rival they're fighting for positions with in the standings, and they've been handed a big advantage twice in the span of a couple weeks.

The Jets are going to have to suck it up, find a way to win. Can't deliver a tired performance against this Avalanche team. It's going to be a tough one even with a strong effort.

If the boys can get it done, I'd love it.

The bad:
- B2B Game against division rival
- 2nd line sucking
- Blackwood .940 since joining the avalanche
- Giant man from Halifax who can score and skate quick
- Defenseman named after some sort of green cabbage whos cheeks are so rosy you'd think he just walked home in -35 without a scarf
- Logan

The Good:
- Hellebuyck
- Career years from all 3 of our top line players
- REVENGE
- No Valeri Nic?hcusg4hjkinr
- Game at home
- Filipino heritage night :)
- Dylan Samberg is back (Which might mean we get good Pionk - last night he was good)
- Last 2nd game of a B2B we played looked much better than those prior despite the eventual loss

Go Jets.

You think Pionk hasn't been good without Samberg?

A tired Jets team with one line that can score, a small D corps, the best goalie on the planet, 5-5 in their last 10

VS

A rested team with some firepower, size, speed and grit and hungry to take over first place, 8-2 in their last 10

Smart money on the Avs

Jets win this one easily.

I will go with 5-2 Winnipeg.

Colorado missing:

Nichushkin
Girard
Wood
Ivan
Kylington
Wedgewood
Landeskog (of course)

Curious to see how they start the game tonight.

Before the season I thought Arniel was not a good hire. Then they won all these games at the start of the season and I figured I was wrong and that Arniel actually was the answer. From watching them this whole season until now, I'm beginning to think the Jets win on their talent despite Arniel.

Most of the time, they never seem to be ready and have to claw back in to games using just their talent. In my untrained eye, there is usually no real changes and they just stick to "playing their game" which also heavily involves relying on Hellebuyck. That's not working as well anymore.

They were missing at least that much the first time they came to town (I think Manson, Drouin and Colton) and they outshot the Jets and outplayed them. After the Jets started strong.

Colorado's 2nd line is scoring. Colton I think has 12 goals already? Jets 2nd line is a black hole right now.

Probably comes down to special teams, and the Jets PK looks better with Samberg, or breakdowns, imo.

I think this is the op’s schtick. Sort of a jinx on us. That guy can bugger off back to his board.

Great analysis. What happened to last year's jet killer?

Once Frenette & Dean left to form Loverboy in 1979, the band was based in Winnipeg with all the remaining members taking residence here including Regina's Shields (vocals), Spider (Bass) & Gutheil (Keys) who added Winnipeg's John Hannah & former Witness drummer Bob Ego to the band. They've now spent the past 44 years played with a large network of Winnipeg based musicians in both Streetheart & other projects. Their move to Winnipeg was largely due to the our rock scene being arguably the best in Canada thoughout the 70's & 80's. Even the Loverboy members spent considerable time here with Mike Reno marrying Ray St. Germain's daughter & original Loverboy bassist Scott Smith being a local boy who has now been replaced by long time Winnipeg resident Spider.

Arniel has definitely continued with RB's defence first system .KFC and Scheif have been a little more responsible on defence, which he deserves some credit for and while Helle/Comerie have bailed them out on several occasions they have been more defensive minded, which may account for them looking sluggish and getting outshot early and often.
They are at least a solid no. 2 centre and top 4 dman away from being able to win a second round. Shut down line 1 and this team struggles to score.

If I'm not mistaken he's been out ever since our last meeting against the avs.

"Nichushkin was originally injured on New Year’s Eve against the Winnipeg Jets, leaving in the second period with what the team called a “lower-body injury.” Bednar said he expected him to miss between seven and 10 days, but it’ll be a little longer than that."

He took a hit in the head from big stan but it's being reported as a LBI so im not exactly sure.

Another band QCK loosely followed the same path, not as successful but still a good band at the time.
