Pre-Game Talk: Game 43: Tues Jan 14th: Slaf @ Cooley, 9 PM | TSN2, RDS

Gotta keep rolling and dominate. It's great that a strong opponent can help us raise our compete level, but we need to start reaching that level whether or not our opponent is there.

Next few games goalie wise is interesting. Monty was great vs Dallas, so is the logic....

a)Give monty Dallas again and give Dobes Utah?
OR
b)Give Monty Utah because he played a good game against Dallas, and give Dobes 'a chance' at Dallas?

I can see the sense in both. Also is Monty a lock for Saturday vs the Leafs? Or does Dobes get another assignment against a top team?

I would go Montembeault Utah, Dobes Dallas, Montembeault Toronto, Dobes NYR. Toronto/NYR game is a back-to-back Saturday/Sunday.

When you cheer for a team whose name (and logo) is derived from the translation of the french "Club de Hockey Canadien", you probably should avoid trashing a team that uses the exact same naming convention.
Angry aren't you... The Utah name is garbage, now go to your room :P

Btw you are wrong.. The team is named Les Canadiens de Montréal.

The "CH" stands for "Club de hockey".

"Get ready for the ultimate rivalry Tuesday night, when the Hockey Club battles the Club De Hockey!"
Which is bullshit, the name is officially Les Canadiens de Montreal. Not that they didn't change it numerous times in their history, but that is the official TM name at the moment.

Lol. Not angry at all. I'm just fascinated by displays of willful ignorance. Clearly there's no saving you, so feel free to carry on.

Yes and no, "Club de Hockey Canadien" aka CHC is the name of the incorporated company that owns and run the team. Les Canadians/Habs is the branding.

This game is bittersweet...

I planned a mini-vacation with a friend to see the game in Utah. Started seeing this great woman in October and tentatively planned to go away with her instead, so I canceled my Utah plans. Then she broke up with me. No Utah. No woman. My life's a bad country song.
Sorry to hear that my friend hopefully you find another great woman maybe one who even enjoys the Habs.

Yep and your point is? The team's name is still Les Canadiens de Montréal. The company that runs the team doesn't matter, I bet you don't even know half of the operating entities in the league anyhow. It's like this: Do you still call the MLS team L'Impact? They still have the branding afaik, but they chose the BS naming scheme so...

I call them the CH and the Habs since this is an English forum. Les Canadiens is branding to me and that's just, well branding, it could be changed to whatever any day.

As for the MLS, I don't follow them, but Impact is way shorter to write so...

The point is still the official trademarking though. UTAH HC is BS, and if I owned a hockey club in Utah, I'd put a protest at the TM office for implying that I can't exist. ;)

How about: The Utah Rebellion, The Utah Rebels, The Utah Hunters... The Utah Smiths ("Because Jesus is great, but we have better")

Im thinking to give dobes the leafs. Monty gets the next 2 games on the road traveling through multiple times zones. Give him the extra day back home to rest and be ready for the Rangers.

You have to play Monty against Dallas. Dobes should play against the Rangers and maybe Utah.

I don't know that Monty has to play against Dallas. Monty just played against them, so yeah, you can just do a direct rotation: Monty (Dallas), Dobes (Utah), Monty (Dallas), Monty (Toronto), Dobes (NYR).

Dobes should definitely get one of Utah or Dallas.

Just tuned into the Basu and Godin podcast. Basu mentioned that the last 13 games for the Habs have required travel.

Makes their current run even more impressive and no wonder they were running on fumes against Dallas

That includes the Christmas break, though since he's counting the 3 games before that. They did get 4 days off for Xmas.

And, if you include the games prior to Christmas, he's still wrong. It isn't 13 games it's 16. Our last homestand was Dec. 3-12.

The games that required travel starts from December 14th @ Winnipeg:

To Winnipeg, return to Montreal (for Buffalo game), to Detroit, return to Montreal (for Detroit), to Columbus, Xmas break, to Florida, to TB, to Vegas, to Chicago, to Colorado, return to Montreal (for Vancouver), to Washington, return to Montreal (for Dallas), to Utah, to Dallas, return to Montreal (for Toronto).

The Toronto game starts a 3 game homestand; all other home games were single games in between road trips essentially creating one long road trip.

Montreal will travel 43,300 miles this year. By comparison, Ottawa is only traveling 32,800 miles. A variance of 10,500 miles.

Pittsburgh is only traveling 31,700 miles. Montreal is traveling significantly more than any other Eastern teams this year. (Tampa Bay & Florida travel more due to being so far south.)

That sucks. Sorry to read. It'll get better!

Although, if you leave now, there's a chance you get there on time & grab one of those coveted tickets where you see half the ice :sarcasm:

The thing is if Sam has better numbers against another team than Dallas I'd be quite surprised. I've always felt that was a stat you just can't ignore when selecting your starting tender. So yes Dobes should get a game but for me Utah is the one he should start. I haven't been right yet so there is that. ;)
