McAvoy the closest .
He inherited a team full of superstars and HOF. In 10 years he hasn’t done much to add onto it.

He got the 2 rook and the king on the chess board from the draft in carlo McAvoy and swayman. That's foundational pieces for sure.

He is having a bad year but when he is on he is a solid dman in the game. You put him on market and their is a flood of calls.

If you mean the actual acquisition of Backes didn’t work out, especially at that price point, I agree. I thought you were referring to him in terms of just that series. I would have played him in game 7. He had something to prove. We should never have lost game 7 at home, and Marchy’s crap line change and Accari not getting up off the ice when a penalty was not called are seared in my memory (as is how skillfully Berube (ironically, a former goon) worked the refs with his whining.

Cassidy got outcoached by Berube in that series. And yeah, I probably would have played Backes vs his former team in a Game 7 instead of Karson Kuhlman (the UMD guy I couldn’t recall).

Forgot to mention that he also inherited 3 first round picks in a deep draft. zilch to show for that also. Oh and Berg and Krecj decided to play for peanuts a few years ago.

I still don't get how people think he's a great GM. Average at best.

Trade Coyle AND Freddie because they are UFA’s, Carlo in the right deal and keep Zacha.

You probably won’t get a ton for Zacha and he’s shown that he can put up 50-60 points in the right situation. You aren’t getting that from either Freddie or Geekie in their best years ever.

Its not all about points when constructing a winning team. Zacha is not a guy I'm willing to hitch my playoff roster wagon to.
