No. Backes sucked, but so did the wing from Minnesota Duluth whose name is escaping me. I mean that there should have been a better option than either of those two. That’s my only criticism of Sweeney regarding that series.

Oh, and if you had a coach that left Heinen with 37 and 63 on the first line and put Pasta with Krejci to create two scoring lines, that probably could have worked as well.

I think your post is very good and he did put enough around the players he needed to in order to win in 2019.Hats off on that, but this situation here is different.The cupboards are bare, they have barely any good young talent on roster and basically no core unless we are talking McAvoy Pasta Swayman.No centres there though.Anyhow not attacking your well thought out posts just don't think Sweeney can fix it .

In the post you replied to, I said that the current FO and/or coaches were probably not the ones you want doing a rebuild/retool (I was agreeing that Sweeney not the guy).

10 years of being a GM has he hit a HR so to speak ? 10 years what marquee player has brought in through a trade? through Free Agency ? The Draft ?

He inherited a team full of superstars and HOF. In 10 years he hasn’t done much to add onto it.

If you mean the actual acquisition of Backes didn’t work out, especially at that price point, I agree. I thought you were referring to him in terms of just that series. I would have played him in game 7. He had something to prove. We should never have lost game 7 at home, and Marchy’s crap line change and Accari not getting up off the ice when a penalty was not called are seared in my memory, as is how skillfully Berube (ironically, a former goon) worked the refs with his whining.

Carlo has the reputation as a good defender and has a valuable contract, his game to game impact on wins and loses is like a box a chocolates

Trade Coyle AND Freddie because they are UFA’s, Carlo in the right deal and keep Zacha.

You probably won’t get a ton for Zacha and he’s shown that he can put up 50-60 points in the right situation. You aren’t getting that from either Freddie or Geekie in their best years ever.
