Hopefully they have a fire in their arse and smoke tampa. I'm waiting for Thursday. These guys have to some emotion. Score first for once.
The only way I watch is if Poitras and Lysell are called up from Providence . Otherwise , I might follow along on Twitter . It might be time to pick a second team for awhile and watch their games , maybe a western conference team like Minnesota.

You trust him to build a good good core? When they hired him alot of key pieces were in place like Chara,Bergeron.Hats off to him adding around it but actually building it from foundation is totally different in my mind. This abomination he built here is pathetic.
You didn’t read the last paragraph?

He didn’t build an abomination. He made mistakes like every other GM in sports does. He also did enough to get the team to a Final in 2019 where they had home ice and were the better team. Unfortunately, the players and coaches screwed the pooch. That wasn’t on Sweeney (except they should have had a better option than Backes).

In 22-23, he did everything you could possibly ask for from a GM for a contender. Having a historical season and he adds Bertuzzi, Orlov and Hathaway to a team that was already setting records. Again, the players and the coaches F’d up and let it slip away.

Lots of things Sweeney could have done better, but he did enough for them to win 2 Cups in 4 years, it just wasn’t to be. It’s easier to blame the GM than it is to blame all the players.

Oilers have not won a Cup since ten years before this millennium started, despite having multiple years of top picks to stock their team. Seeing them lose again would be like watching the Yankees getting eliminated or the Flyers, Habs, (or fill in the blank with your favorite team to hate) get bounced. Sheer joy. May their futile efforts continue.
This is exactly why a planned rebuild never works in the real world. How many times did they get the first overall? Getting a generational player never happens but it did for them and they still can't can't win it all.

They didn’t play Backes in game 7. That was a mistake. He was eating nails having been benched earlier in the series.

Their core is good and they added help on backend .Learning from those playoff losses .They are no joke they can score goals.
The same core that could never beat the Bruins ? Sure the Leafs are a little better but it’s more about the Bruins have fallen off a cliff . Last year’s team is probably 1st in the division easily .

Not really a surprising result. Still losing the majority of 1 on 1 battles and foot races. That's the way this team was built, unfortunately. I'll take the little bit of pride they had showing up physically, but they barely had the puck all night.

I don't understand the PP. Usually exists an opportunity to get back into games you otherwise shouldn't be in. Machand, Pastrnak, and McAvoy are probably your three best players. Those three and that top unit are beyond horrendous together in their current formation. Try something different. ****. The 2nd unit almost immediately generated a few chances at the net with simple plays. You have the man advantage. It's not rocket science.

Management should have a target on their back. Maybe it's just me, but Lindholm appears like a very similar expensive version of Coyle. Peeke is like a smaller less accomplished version of Coyle. There's a log jam of middle-6/bottom-6 brutes with limited offensive and/or defensive value. The list goes on. So many redundant pieces...

Bad habits all over the place. There was definitely a competitive spark when Monty was fired. That is all but gone. Back to the country club. Where is the leadership? Accountability?
