Mid January, Norris is healthy and the Senators are looking good for a wildcard spot. This is exactly what i was hoping for before the season. Hell yeah.
Definitely had a huge scare when he took that puck to the ankle and had to be helped off the ice.

Huge sigh of relief when he got back to the bench.

Need to get Soogard out of the org ASAP

Can't have his 1-way deal on the team next year
Not really a big deal, a vet AHL goalie is 100-200k anyways, so we spend an extra 575-675k on our AHL goalie for one year, it has no cap implication, the only real downside is it's a contract for a guy unlikely to get any callups unless something changes.

Unless there is a GM foolish enough to give Staios a future consideration, I don't see a market for Soogard and see him get the MacEwen treatment next season where he makes NHL money in Belleville. Impact to Andlauer's checkbook, but the right move where there is no cap impact to the OSens.

Forsberg will be a UFA and Merilainen will potentially back up Ullmark full-time.

i just hope we sign a 2b/3a goalie just to insulate merilainen enough

as for soogard i agree, unless he somehow has a hell of an offseason he is basically going to be our goalie version of macewen

Seemed like the 4th line created a lot and helped wear down the Isles.
Highmore - Ostapchuk - MacEwen looked really solid.

That line definitely isn't getting the kudos it deserves the last two games. They're bringing a lot of grit and energy and making life very hard on the opposition every shift they're on the ice. My guess is all three stay in Ottawa the rest of the season unless we go get some more depth at the TDL.

Green seems to be a huge Greig fan. He led all forwards in ice time last night.
He’s been good since the contract.

Highmore has been very solid. Aggressive on the forecheck, some good speed. Seems to have a good sense to getting himself to the net and in the right spot to get shots. Some smart passes back to the points to extend zone time as well.

Swiss army knife, Green puts him anywhere and he plays well.

Looks like the team and coaching staff is getting more comfortable changing up lines in game depending on the situation.

Brady-Bath-Stu after a PK, Grieg slotting in for Gaudette if the Stutzle line needs to come out and they are in dzone or against a tough matchup.

Amadio, Gregor and Perron all returning at some point soon. Isn't Reinhart injured currently too? Those returnees in all likelihood move at least Highmore and McEwan back down. I have liked them as an energy line as well. The odd rough shift but when they are out they've typically hemmed in the opposition pretty effectively which is perfect for a fourth line. All you can ask and nice to seemingly have lots of options as injuries come up.

They can bury it, but teams generally don't like to have 1-way money on the books.

Both Sogaard and MacEwan in the AHL will be about a million above the cost of two AHL veterans.

We clearly aren't a budget team like we were under Melnyk, but every team does have a budget or a set limitation with spending. So maybe Sogaard's one way contract isn't of major consequences, but the money has to come out of somewhere. It would be a positive to get it off the books.

f*** work for calling me in last minute and makiing me miss this game. Watching this team lock in defensively against NYI would've been awesome.

That team's roster construction is so mid. I wonder which aging vet they'll sign next
