To be fair Trocheck has been very good defensively.

That's fair but any league minimum depth forward that's good defensively could be in his spot if his only real value is defense. Rangers had a kid primed and ready for 2nd line center (Chytil) and then they went ahead and over extended themselves on a glorified 3rd line player because they knew he was Gallant's boy in Florida. Offensively he's done nothing but leach off his teammates while the other guy, Chytil, creates his own offense.

Sad thing is every team in the league had multiple opportunities to draft him. He could have ended up anywhere. Guy had a great career but man, what might have been in store for him if a handful of other franchises had taken a flyer on him. All those years he haunted the Caps in the playoffs. The Blackhawks with Lundqvist? Penguins? It’s kinda sad.
