Post-Game Talk: Game 42: Another third period collapse and Bruins lose 3-2

Yes, Carey Price absolutely. As we all know you can't win without a solid netminder.

Again, I'm not arguing it doesn't have an impact what I'm arguing is that the impact is magnified by the line combinations the HC is choosing to employ. No reason to shift up Ferraro and no reason to suit up Kemp, Claude chooses to go that route because he covets defensive minded two way centers.

And on defense he can employ that transition puck moving D he supposedly embraced this offseason. He could get Morrow, C Miller and Krug in the lineup at the same time. He's choosing to go with K Miller ,Trotman and Macquaid when healthy.

I understand where Claude's at - he's trying to preserve his job , by playing the game the best way he knows. I can't blame him for that , but is that what is best for the team ??

I think Claude knows that playing the wider open style they used at the beginning of the season will lead to more and worse defeats. Not only would that cost him his job, it would cost the Bruins the playoff spot they say is their goal.

There is a real disconnect between what the Bruins management's stated goal is and the means they have provided Claude to achieve that goal. I can't make up my mind whether this is deliberate or not.

I'll be honest, I don't watch a lot of hockey outside of the bruins games except occasionally the playoffs. There just isn't enough time in the day.

So I can't speak to a lot of names on that list.

However, naming people like Krug, Hamilton, Boychuk, Franson as defensmen you would rather have than Chara is laughable. We are not talking contracts, or potential, etc, just who is a better defensman.

This board widely regards krug as a bottom 6, PP specialist. Hamilton as a soft PP specialist. Franson as someone who no one wanted to sign. Boychuk is a solid top 4 guy but are there really people that rather play him on our top 2 pairing?

I'm not certain that's entirely true. This team was scoring at a pretty good clip just as recently as last month. Some will argue that the downturn in offense coincides with Krejci's injury and that's true . But it also ushered in the reliance on the more rigid 3rd man high system and it led Claude to water down the line combos trying to get more defensive responsibility into the lineup.

If the Bruins reverted to the quick transition style and actually replaced Krejci with more offensive minded players they should score more goals. Will it lead to more 5-4 , 6-5 type games - absolutely and will the Bruins get blown out every now and then - sure, but I'm not sure that's any worse than losing games where Rask stands on his head and they lose 1-0 or 2-1.

In actually looking at this list, at least 50 are not better than Chara at this present time. It isn't even the grass is always greener theory, it's just flat out wrong!

Dan Boyle? Connor Murphy? Streit? Hainsey? Gardiner? Holden, Oduya, Phaneuf, Wideman, Franson, Krug, Zidlicky... the number of names I can pull off this list and immediately scratch off brings this list to a far lower number than 80.

Totally my opinion and I accept that all will not agree with my list. Is there anyone on the list who is a slower skater than Chara?

The bruins are still a grinding type team with the forwards they have any way you would like to slice it. I can go through almost every team and tell you that they have more talent in a wide open game than the bruins have. Even a team with offensive talent to burn like the hawks plays a tight defensive game . I find you guys funny that think we can totally open up which basically no one in the nhl does with the personal we have.

I was looking for bit bigger names, regulars that play good minutes, that's not really promising list still.

Is scratching Milan Lucic a big enough name for you. Wideman was also scratched well he was here. If you are looking for him to bench a Bergeron because he makes a mistake it isn't going to happen and never ever should.

I'm not saying they go Dallas Stars crazy, I'm just wanting the coach to utilize players that could spur the offense and put pucks in the net. Guys like Kemp will keep the GAA down but they add nothing to the offensive game. Guys like Rinaldo, Ferraro, Randell , Talbot all great 4th line energy guys but again for the minutes they play they're not producing offensively.

People here have the mindset that its either/or. Either they open it open and go fire wagon or play strict defense. There's a lot of in between , similiar to how they played just a month ago. The offensive personnel we have will never be confused with the 80's Oilers but it can be adequate enough , but the philosophy needs to change. Losing a #1 center shouldn't send any team into a tailspin where you score 11 goals over 6 games, its not all on talent and the players, it starts with who the coach chooses to send over the boards in various situations.
