I get the strong vibe sometimes that there's a ton of guys in here way older than me.
I've got a t-shirt to prove it...

Hasn't been an injury yet to an offensive defenseman. Knock on wood, those 2 seem to train well and manage their contact and angles well enough to not get hurt.

Pionk was an uncertainty to begin the year. He's been a leader on this team this year. He's not signed next year. Heinola is. There is still a lot of season to play. For Ville he's in the show. You look at the way Broberg sat in the PB and watched a lot of hockey last year and then came in and had an impact in the playoffs when his number was called. I think Ville would like to go the distance with the Jets this year. Could be wrong though.
Broberg also jumped from Oilers the first chance he got.

It's not like they just benched him for Stanley they were also giving Cog games that could have gone to Heinola if they really wanted to.
I think I've seen better offensive instincts from Stanley than Heinola thus far.

There is opportunity. He’s just not been given any opportunity. If we’re not in a position now the give our youth some reps, then we never will be.
The leading team in the NHL with a core that's around 30 is not a teaching environment. The season is a time to see where all your pieces fit in, refine your systems, and determine what you need to add to win a cup.

It's not a place for a guy who is nothing more than a prospect who has a 2 year nhl playing gap to be given a huge run of games to try and get up to speed.

Still haven't seen Ville on the PP because the opportunity isn't there. He's a good passer on the PP, skating like Morrissey is what open up the angles and seams.

Stanley is straight lines, definitely has improved lateral movement since Moose days. He's big. he can be mean.

Name of the game is win as many games as you can in the regular season. Not sure Ville has shown he can have a definitive impact on a game. But it's 20 something more to the deadline, and he's going to get more professional practice time with professionals. It's definitely conceivable that he can improve over the course of the year after getting a late start on the season.

We don’t need to win the president’s trophy. We need to be in the best position to do well in playoffs and that includes developing your depth. The depth will certainly be tested in any long run in the playoffs.

I have a feeling we will get even more veteran at the TDL. Not sure if Chevy puts the 1st in play again but I have little doubt he will add to the team.

I agree. We shouldn't have seen better offensive instincts from Demelo and Stan than Heinola. Yet, that is the situation that we are in, because, either A) the Jets didn't give him enough opportunities to develop or B) he isn't up to what we wanted from him.

I think the most likely scenario if Pionk or Morrissey miss games is that they trade for someone like Ghostbierre.

I think the first step would be to put Miller on the 2nd PP and change the focus to more of a shoot from the point and net front to score.

Yep and then they will take someone out of the line up no one is happy with.

You could be right. Miller definitely has the harder shot. I think Stan gets the puck through more often and is less likely to shoot the puck and get it blocked. I was impressed by Stan's vision more.

Good, but I was asking about the fortnight in Vancouver, actually.
It was fabulous. Van is such an amazing city. Bright lights, great scenery, terrific clubs, available men. I'd forgotten what an incredible place it is. Or maybe I just put it out of my mind, being stuck here. I've just forayed out to restock the pantry and if you've never driven in a snow squall, you've never really seen snow.

On the optimistic side, I had a strange sort of interview at a fancy party that might prove quite life-changing.

And what's this about you -- the all-time snoop into other folks' business -- not sharing your own story?

Key to playoff success is to free jomo from the shutdown role he gets trapped in... as soon as teams crushed pionk and got him off his game, jomo was literally our only option and that neutered his offence

Honestly risto is looking better as an option... or we give a samberg-miller pairing a shot as our shutdown and see if that leaves two pairings open for offence

Singh and Garrett calling the game tonight

Wings are 3-1 since McLellan was hired, winning their last 3 games.

Wings have the 5th best PP and 2nd worst PK. They have the 5th worst goal differential at -21.

Jets have won 4 straight against the Wings, and quite easily, winning, 6-2, 4-1, 5-2, and 6-2.

Helle going for win #300

Perfetti 2 points away from 100 for his career. He's been stuck at 98 for a little while now and needs to get going.

Appleton on the IR

Alec Baldwin (not that one) Is singing the anthems tonight.

He has sung the anthems previously at a Moose game.

While all of these players are being discussed, it becomes pretty apparent that our depth is pretty amazing. Having trouble finding a spot for good prospects is a great problem to have, especially at playoff time.

Still don't even know the opponent or who needs to be shutdown. Maybe the strategy isn't shutdown but 3 pairings that can move the puck in transition, to create offensive pressure, and maintain it with good rotation.

Lowry is the key player in any shutdown situation. I think Morrissey with Scheif is the most dangerous offensive pairing the Jets can have, but if you are playing 4 line, 3 pairing hockey it's hard to matchup line and pairings all the time. It's situational. Maybe you put Samberg and Melo in some tight spots together, if you want a more defensive looking pairing. That's probably your PK1.

For me it's simple this year get a bonafide 2nd line centre or stay out of deadline deals. We have enough D, serviceable d men as long as the main 4 stay healthy. As for todays game again don't take the Wing lightly and capitalize on your chance and get a pp goal or two.
I’ll agree the #2 center is probably most important. Though my hope is go more aggressive and get someone younger with term. The mythical top pairing RHD is always a dream, but never attainable even as a rental.

Yup I don't want a pure rental if the Jets first is in play get a centre with term and add prospects to get him

You just described what we tried last year... the problem is we dont have those three pairings and jomo is an elite defenceman

Essentially my point is that there is a blueprint to shutdown what you are suggesting... so lets try something else
