GDT: Game 41: Red Wings vs hawks 7:00 pm et 1/10/25

in some ways, 1LW and 4C are not a priority at all. Larks/Ray don't need lot of help, 4th line gets 10mins. It's more important IMO that middle six particularly second line are producing chances and putting in a decent defensive effort. Also more important than Kasper/Veleno is the second pair playing well. Also more important is winning on special teams and the goaltending holding up. Kasper's relevance to this year's team and all the chatter about what he is and might become is really over-emphasized.

"When comparing the Blackhawks and the Red Wings, it can be interesting to note that although at first glance both names seem to be referencing birds, they do nothing of the sort. Chicago's team is named after a World War One infantry division - itself named after a famous native American leader; and Detroit's name is derived from their actual "winged wheel" logo, that concept itself being borrowed from a legacy Montreal bicycling club. Now, far from that "Inception"-movie level of multitudinous layering, only one team's record this season is mysterious. The Blackhawks were not expected to be very competitive yet, and they've not been, currently occupying last place in the NHL. The Red Wings however, after showing up as an unexpectedly bad team for the first third of the season, have come out of the holiday break better, stronger, faster, and riding a 5-game win streak. This means that tonight the LCA will be filled with Detroit fans eager to be shown that they have not been living in some sort of dream, and that the team's transformation is real, and it's spectacular."

We have won the special teams battle 6 games in a row.

We need some es production. We have won 5, but there are too many players on the team which need to produce.

Let's extend that streak and give the shithawks a beating.

Shithawks -- I approve.

It's much less profane and much more...politically correct and socially acceptable than my usual substitution for Black Hawks.

I will leave the derivation of my usual substitution as an exercise for the reader, as it won't fit into the margins of these threads.

yep the streak is really amazing given the dead weight on the roster, and only sustainable if we shed that dead weight. The thing is though -- even if we could trade Tarasenko and a couple of others for middling picks, it's not like we have an over-ripe Nyquist or Tatar waiting in the wings.

McLellan needs to use his dark powers of necromancy to make Tarasenko the player he was in St Louis. (Muffled voice from McLellan's office: Ia! Shub Niggurath! The black goat of the woods with a thousand young!)
