Historically the first game back after a long road trip is usually not a good game/effort.

No way with the 4 nations tournament coming up does MSL disrespect Montembeault. The last thing this team needs is a media fueled goalie controversy
Yeah if he spins it like we are simply throwing the kid a well deserved candy there is no goaltender controversy.
At one point you have to give him a home game don't you think?

The classic home loss after a lenghty road trip. Vancouver is in shambles so we might have a chance to overcome this.
I think losing the Chicago game, taught them something.......I am looking for a W !!

Samuel Montembeault has a 1-3-1 record against the Canucks with a 4.62 goals-against average and a .855 save percentage.

Thought I'd put that here.
Dobes should play............but it will be Monty. It's just an MSL thing to do.....

I am a huge Dobes fan but the sample size of 2 games is simply not enough for a goalie controversy
Me too and I agree. I hope he keeps it up but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him back in Laval either. He’s still young and really doesn’t have a ton of pro experience yet.

I don't see us returning Dobes before the break unless he cracks.
We have 17 games between now and then and we can surely give him seven expecting Sam to play more in the 4 Nations Cup.
He can also play in Laval during the break.
The Rocket play a Pejorative Slured 5 games in 7 nights Feb 16th to the 22nd during the pause.

Dobes should be starting. I'd go with the hot hand

I don't like the idea of putting a new goalie ahead of tested veteran until there's a very solid body of work or the veteran has significant issues (Montenbeault doesn't have any big struggles). If the new guy doesn't work out, the veteran is not going to be happy about being leapfrogged on evidence worth a few games.

That's just way too high of a risk for a relatively low reward imo.

What is Habs' record when on Amazon Prime?

L to Pittsburgh
W against Edmonton
W against Anaheim

I might be missing a game or two though.

To be fair, I attended one of those games back in 2022 in Vancouver.

Montembeault was really good but gave up 4 goals.

Goal tending stats are never fair.

Habs can actually be in a playoff spot with a win!!!

Which means they will lose.
3rd chance to push us above .500 we've faltered on two previous occasions.

Lol I really can't believe we're getting posts like this already

f***in 0 patience in Habs Land, always lol
Guy just GOT here , let's give him the world!! and toss Monty to the trash bin after giving him his much deserved (albeit stopgap) contract

Sigh, lol
LOL
I'd play Dobes on a hunch there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
It won't kill Samuel will it?

I find people underestimate Team Vibes tho

It's not like Montembeault is still budding and 'trying to make it' as a Goaltender, it's pretty clear, for at least these 3 years, The team considers him as the #1 (for now)
Yes people do 'emerge' and they can 'play well enough to steal jobs'

But there's more to it than, 'simply playing some new guy a bunch of times but he's winning so just keep playing him everytime'
It was 1 goaltender that was struggling, and it was the backup and he has been replaced
It wasn't BOTH goaltenders that were circling the drain so we needed a saviour and a new #1

You keep playing a kid over the established non-struggling G, and you are messing with the vibes on the team

If the team in front craps the bed it doesn't matter who you start.
Nobody is saying Dobes should take Sam's net.

Like Chicago this is a bitch of a trap game so the only reason you would use Dobes is to spark the troops.
We lost to Chicago because of our slow start.

Also solid body of work? It doesn't get any solider.
You must mean larger sample size which requires him playing more games.
