Whats been the opinion of the Moore pairing so far in the game day threads? I don't read them except for the last few pages, but I feel like Moore has been on of our top performers thus far defensively. Would like to see him get rewarded with more minutes.

Who would you move down to the 3rd pair, Tyutin or JJ? You know that Moore is playing on the left side? Moore looks good. But don't forget he's playing easy minutes against opposition bottom lines. Don't put too much pressure on the kid when it's not necessary.

Moore is good. I'm very impressed. He can sersiouly skate and he's entirely more calm with the puck than a rookie should be. He looks better than Aucoin. I really like Savard, and didn't like the decision to start the season with Moore ahead of him, but I was flat out wrong.

Rookie? He played more games than any other Blue Jackets defenseman last season.

Some story lines for the game.
Bob and Varlamov were compiting for a spot on different Russian teams since they were 16. They were like Vasilevsky and Makarov these days.
Also both Anisimov and Varlamov were born in 1988 and grew up together since they were 12. They know each other probably better than Carter and Richards. Plus they were teammtes in the KHL this season.

They're like Tommy Hanrahan and Reg Dunlop. :)

Is it just me, or is the Tyutin/Nikitin combo not clicking as the "shut down pair" they were at the end of last season??? When they checked each other last night was my last straw to turn the game off.

I'll echo the sentiment, I think RJ just may need to sit a game or too and get that "hunger" for the game back... he's just not looking consistent. There are bursts of energy and the RJ we all know and love... just not enough to support all the people who wanted to give his the "C" before the season started.

RJ had a slow start last season too. I definitely think he deserves to sit, if nothing else then to rest and rebuild. But I still have faith he'll manage to put it together.

I agree on the Nikitin Tyutin pairing. I noticed it actually in the very first game, that they didn't look quite like they did last season, and they've gotten progressively worse since then. In the offensive zone they both look fine, but they can't make passes, and Nikitin can't seem to keep up with his man along the boards. Them hitting each other made it painfully clear that them speaking the same language was not helping them last night.

I'm feeling it too, but we aren't even 1 week into the season. Nikitin stepped off the plane from Russia 12 days ago I believe. I guess the conundrum is, do you wait for them to work through the chemistry issues or do you have other pairings you'd like to experiment with. Tough call.

Also Nikitin played for Avangard Omsk. Time difference between Columbus and Omsk is exactly 12 hours. The day when lockout was over Nikitin was in Khabarovsk, that's 16 hours time difference with Ohio.
All year he played on the left side, for Columbus he has to play on the right. He has to make some serious adjustments. Considering all those circumstanses he doesn't look that bad.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_lag
The condition of jet lag may last several days until one is fully adjusted to the new time zone, and a recovery rate of one day per time zone crossed is a suggested guideline.
Nikitin arrived on Jan 12th and crossed 16 time zones. Let's wait at least till Jan 28th when he can recover from that jet lag.

I wouldn't touch the D pairings, but I would think about sitting Umby if he doesn't get going by Saturday.

My question: Should he go, say, 1-5, what are the chances of Mason being sent down down to Springy Jungle, and who is our best goalie that we could call up in his place?

I don't know if he would clear waivers.

Also, MacElhinney is the #3 on the depth chart.

What we really need to change is the 40+ shots against we have had in the last 2 games. That comes down to puck possession and making passes out of our zone.

Seriously, they are the worst passing bunch of pro hockey players I can recall.

Nikitin has not been too bad in my opinion. He and Tyutin need to get more physical, but most of the defensive gaffs I have noticed have come from Tyutin. He tries to force passes left and right.

Also they are getting out hustled. The other teams forecheck and backcheck them to death. We need to churn the legs, get separation, and hit hit hit.

McElhinney hasn't played since the groin injury, so if a goalie needed to be recalled immediately, it would be York. But McElhinney backed up York last night, so he should be back in action soon..

If Mason completely implodes, then sending him to Springy would be the best solution. Depending on how badly he does, teams might not take a chance on him since he would have to stay on their NHL roster.

Considering how well the Falcons are playing, even with York and Dainton, Mason would be able to bounce back with stellar AHL stats that might make another team take a chance on him.

can someone at least give a cryptic non-answer to what headfake is about?
I liked the first two games. I like bob, and the other new guys. the blue line looked good moving the puck and getting shots on the powerplay.
absolutely agree umberger should sit. I'd like to see:
dubinsky - anisimov - prospal
johan - brassard - atkinson
I thought johansen looked great last night even though it didn't lead to anything. thornton-esque. 2nd line. seriously is no one else irritated about dorsett on the 1st two lines? he took a completely moronic penalty last night that led directly to a goal. now there's a good excuse to put him back where he belongs.

Basically it started with the observation that JJ headfakes a lot. And took off from there. It's one of those things where if you weren't there you probably won't think it's funny (and Viqsi probably will tell you it's not funny anyway ) but for those of us who were it was ****ing hilarious and made last night a lot more palatable than most losses are.

Keep the headfake thing in the chat or the infraction points might start flying.

That's all.

You aren't alone, jacketsinDC. Dorsett (Mr. Canary in the Coal Mine) should be on a checking line or energy line, not with guys like Anisimov, Johansen, Atkinson, etc.

Bold predictions:
We will not lose by 4 goals
We will score more than 1 goal
We will have over 10 penalty minutes
Umberger will continue to loaf
Game goes into overtime
J. Moore gets more playing time
FSO misses a goal.
