I'm guessing a side deal to leave Soda unprotected is what we see. Soda is a piece Vegas would want, has salary, and his contract won't hamstring Vegas.

I read somewhere that the NMC list is being reviewed now, we might know Beauch's status here soon.

I don't think there's question about whether or not Beauch would need to waive his NMC (he would), it's the guys like fleury (with limited NTCs and NMCs related to reassignment) that they need to review

and I've essentially accepted we're losing one of soda, grigs, or a goalie to vegas, unless they have super high hopes for grigs, I'm not sure there's a side deal that makes the difference between losing any of them worth the assets given up

We had 16 shots. We actually had 5 shots for the entire second 30 minutes of the game. Let's be honest, no way we should have scored 4 goals. Got a couple of good bounces with Duchene(first) and Marty's goals. Varly was great. Still need to be better, but I will take the two points.

Actually, the 5v5 corsi was relatively even through the first 42ish minutes of the game. While I agree that they likely shouldn't have scored four goals, it's not uncommon for teams to quit or drastically reduce pushing offensively while up by three goals. Hence why it's called the worst lead in hockey, because lots of teams kind of go to sleep at the wheel and try to prevent.

I wont disagree that they need to do better in those situations, I think they played excellent through most of the game and think that they deserved the 2 points last night.

Watched most of the game from the bar last night. So good to get the shutout win! It feels like it has been forever since Varly actually had a shutout.

4 points out of 6 so far on the road trip of death. Can't complain about that. On to Sunshine.

We don't know if Beauch had a NMC for all 3 years or what the wording is. All wording in NMCs are a bit different.

I feel like grigs is gone unless he really lights it up for the rest of this year. I'm not happy about it, but Soder is the better player in my opinion.

Well, I still believe Cody's an NHL player, but that doesn't mean he's an everyday player anymore. I could only listen to tonight's game and then caught the highlights on On the Fly so I didn't see him tonight. But I suppose not many of you saw him either.

Right now Andreas Martinsen is displaying better offensive instincts while also supplying that physical edge that is McLeod's bread and butter. I imagine Cody will have nights where he gets much more usage depending on how the game goes.

My (probably wrong) prediction: Cody departs for Vegas after this season.

It's not just the physical edge that Martinsen brings. Cody is just too slow for this system. We want to be the first to the puck or at least pressure the puck carrier. He is always a step too late to really influence the play. He isn't even a good PK option now because we want fast aggressive players there as well. In this system he is basically just a goon. A goon that nobody is scared of.

Am I nuts or is there something wrong with the stanchions in Tampa? Bishop be gettin those crazy bounces all the time it seems.

Can we just healthy scratch Iginla for the majority of the season? I don't care if its bad value for his salary and I don't care if his feelings are hurt - the guy literally stands there on the ice half the game. I can't remember the last time I saw a professional hockey player, let alone one of his caliber, actually stop skating and stand there as often as he does.

I don't think he's quite scratch-worthy. He needs to be a 4th line pp specialist, and that's all. Use that shot as best you can during the pp, then park him on the bench for most of the rest of the game. It sucks it's come to that, but it has. I'd love to see what Colborne or even a Bourque could do as the 3rd forward on a Landy-Mack line.

Iggy basically just led the team in ES ice time. And isn't getting that much PP time actually. I don't think we see him demoted to 4th line PP specialist any time soon. That ice time is insane though.

If he doesn't light it up then nobody will want him. Plus his RFA status makes him less attractive.

Avs will buyout Beauch before protecting him causes them to lose a forward they like. IMO.

That makes me wanna vomit. Bednar needs to do something about this. These kinda decisions will cost you hockey games sooner or later. Iginla was absolutely atrocious last night even if you remove the two penalties. There was a play last night in the third where he corralled the puck off the boards went and tried to flip it out, fanned, and fell down for no reason. He didnt get hit and there wasnt much pressure on him and TB got the puck back. Its little **** like that thats eventually going to cost. So funny that the one shift G. Bourque is on that wing that line had its best possession time and pressure. Cant be a coincidence right? Im not advocating having G.Bourque there but anyone is better than Iginla in that spot right now.

Going to be tough, we're playing the Number One Franchise In All Of Sports, after all. Get Dutch's "notoriously slow starter" tag gone for a change and get him a few.

Boy this sure went to plan

Pretty much the perfect response to the Washington game. For all of Tampa's speed and precise passing they barely had any real chances. Kucherov hitting the post early on was about it. Once Duchene scored and embarrassed Stamkos in the process I didn't feel we were in any danger of going behind. Varlamov had some good saves where he was really aggressive at the top of his crease, he's looked good with those this year.

Extra delicious was watching the Jolly Blue Giant in their net get wrung up. His flailing leg on the first goal was like watching a beached whale flap about, the second shows the futility of size instead of ability and the third, well. His sense of resignation was palpable. My thanks go to the Zamboni crew at The Ice Palace who quite clearly hate their own team. I hope they assisted the rapid evacuation of the fans who vanished with Soderberg's laser went in. It looked like there was going to be more people on the benches than in the stands.

On an individual level there wasn't really a performance to fault last night. Duchene will obviously draw the bulk of the plaudits but as I said earlier in the game Zadorov looked like he could be the sort of player you expect a defenseman of his size to be. He needs sat down in a room with an endless highlight video of Chris Pronger and told to do that, only that and nothing else but that. Get him playing mean and physical and he's everything you'd ever want on the back end for the next fifteen years. My only complaint really is reserved again for Iginla who needs limited to eight minutes a night plus PP time as soon as possible. Aside from all of that, perfect game. More against the other Floridian beer league outfit at the weekend, please.

Seriously though it hilarious seeing how quickly Mcleod's role has diminished on this team. went from an A wear top 9er who play special teams to this. Wonder if Foppa still believes he's an NHL player.

I don't mind one bit.

Martinsen's goal was hilarious, not because of a crazy bounce - even though I love seeing Bishop look like a fool that he is - but because of how Martinsen fanned on the shot and it still somehow went in. Better to be lucky than good I guess.

The best thing about his goal was the John Scott-like celebration afterwards. From an outsiders perspective Martinsen seems like a goof in the room who's all smiles.

I just think Martinsen can do everything McLeod does at a faster pace while having those offensive instincts. If Martinsen is the full-time McLeod replacement once all players are healthy and continues to play this way, I don't mind

The Marty praise is good to see, I hope the doubters are eating crow come the end of the year. But I also realize we're likely in for a short lived career for Marty, if the history of this team has taught us anything it's that our decent 4th liners don't last long. McLeod is the only exception so far. McClement, Hendricks, Dupuis, Bordeleau, Guite... there's plenty more names of players that either left or fizzled out after 1 or 2 years.

If he could turn into a Matt Martin type we'd be so fortunate.

A coach after my own heart. Haven't caught the game yet. have it on PVR. I'm guessing Duchene for captaincy and Varly for prez?

I've mentioned this recently. I think he's an NHL player as opposed to Smith because Cody brings a specific role to the table, and stays in his lane (pun intended) but he's a scratch in this year's healthy lineup. 13th or even 14th behind Martinsen, after Mikko and Mitchell are inserted in the lineup.

Bednar doesn't want to use him much because his system is so aggressive, and he's worried about his speed, as well as penalties. He very well could end up traded to a team that doesn't have such high speed demands, or worries.

He'll figured it out soon enough if he hasn't already. Once Mikko gets back to where they planned on him being, I think a lot of things will fall into place.

I don't understand why he thinks Iginla should be out there to end most periods and games though. It worries me that he doesn't realize how big a liability he is there.

I agree with your assessment about the aggressiveness of JB's system and McLeod's lack of speed.

So what would the lines be?

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Colborne
Grigorenko - Soderberg - Duchene
Martinsen - Rantanen - Colborne
G. Borque - Mitchell - R. Borque
Iginla

That second line ties up our options at center. McLeod traded for draft picks and Smith sent down?

Sounds like they want Rantanen in the top6. And I highly doubt Iggy is benched. With 14 forwards no need to trade McLeod and demote Smith, just one or the other.
