A lot of us said this summer, Howie was unlikely to be close to as bad as he was last year. Agree though on these points. I think Smith's growth is going to really help this team, he looks better than he did down the stretch run and playoffs last year where he was our second best D-man in my opinion. Right now he and DeKeyser are playing to pretty much a dead heat, that gives us four good D-man and appropriately slots Quincey who looks terrific quite frankly to start the year. Ericsson has had a pretty mediocre start but looks better tonight, not surprisingly he isn't taking the #1 guys either.

I'm a big Q critic, so I give him credit for looking solid thus far, and not being a plus-minus black hole like he was the first half of last year.

It's good to see. Still don't think he's worth what he's getting, but oh well.

Well it took him a few years, but I think Abdelkader might finally have figured out how to complement skilled players in a top line role. He's looked pretty good whenever he's played on the top line so far this season.

I thought his wrist got jammed pretty good, which is consistent with the NHL calling it a lower body, almost always the opposite part of the body when they don't have to be honest.
