They are rocking in hockey analytics currently. Nothing is based on luck.

So that could be easily sustainable.

Why not being the Blues of 2019 ?

They went from NHL-worst team to Stanley Cup after a coaching change. :o

They made trades and other moves too outside of just the coaching change...

This. Sure it's nice to be hot and everything right now, but this team won't stand against the big dogs without an upgrade on defense. Steve needs to strike while the irons hot.

If CBJ bottoms out, I'd make a play for Provorov. Hell, I wouldn't even mind an overpay if he'd re-sign here. If they're still in the mix, might be worth a look at Ferraro from SJ.

I feel Saturday was the best game I've seen Johansson play. It was a low-key ballsy move by the new staff to plug him in for Petry next to Edvinsson and play them as the 2nd pairing but they responded well. There was one sequence in the corner, in particular, where Johansson went head-to-head with Lowry, a much bigger man, and outcompeted him and won the puck battle. It was impressive.

Petry is injured. Ed and AlJo played together in GR. Todd already knows GusHoll is shit.

I think it was his best game too, but at the same time he had the best partner. AlJo's puck decisions are bad though.

realistically the Wings getting the 2nd wild card spot would require playing at a ~105-115 point pace for the rest of the season

can they do that? color me skeptical

It only requires us to play 3 points better than all the wild card teams ahead of us.

if you wanna dumb it down all the way to a "the odds are 50/50 either it happens or it doesn't" level sure

we're talking about like 7 other teams here not just one or two, if you want any realistic hope of beating all of them you need to perform at a certain level because the odds are very high that at least one of those other teams will

All I see is a guy who physically isn't strong enough to stay in the NHL. Only chance he has is to get a lot stronger, as his other attributes are nothing special at the NHL level. He actually pushed a guy out of the crease in the last game, and he will need to work on doing that more. I honestly don't get the hoopla around him as he doesn't look any better than Holl or Gus out there which is not a good thing.

I can understand people wanting to play him and see what we have (young guy is way more likely to improve than vets) but I would agree that overall I've been disappointed in what I've seen. Not to say he could not improve but his skating and size have definitely been major factors thus far. I don't know if its bad angle reads but he gets beat to a lot of pucks I think he should get and he struggles along the boards. I expected better decision making and stick work. More of the quiet calm where you don't notice him a lot, but that hasn't been the case thus far.

He is going to need to pick it up in the 2nd half or I think he risks getting passed by as early as next season with Buium, Tuo, and Wally knocking at the door.

Him and Gus tie for meh right now. I think Holl has been better than both thus far this season, but he is also not a guy I'd want anchoring a pair.

Keep in mind this just my own amateur opinion from a few Griffins games, but IMO Buium is looking like the best option to come up right now. Yes, over Wallinder. He's just really steady and solid. Not an amazing skater, but fast enough and he's long.

No. They only scored two goals. I know for a fact he was not on the ice for the 2nd, Edvinsson and Holl were.

And Johansson was +1 for the game.

Holl was -2 (on the ice for both their goals). Edvinsson was -1.
I thought it was obvious I was talking about Holl.
Holl made the turnover and they scored their 1st.

It's almost like arguing who's fart smells worse.... and I know some people may disagree, but I'd rather have Petry than Holl. Holl is scary with the puck. Petry is also more physical.

Johansson should probably get more than half a season playing mostly with Gustafsson or Holl, while the whole team is playing like absolute trash before we start calling him disappointing. He's been in and out of the line up, trash line mates etc.

He plays one game with a good partner against the best team in the league and he was great. If you're expecting any of those other D to come in and do better you're going to be disappointed. Johansson was noticeably better than any of them in the A
