I think we kinda figured we'd be worse than the best teams in the division and better than the worst teams for the most part.

The issue is more so how maddeningly non-competitive they are against better teams.
Even Tippett's bad teams usually put up a decent fight against most competition they just sucked. I had philosophical disagreements with him.

I have Xs and Os disagreements with Tocchet. Can't win

Garland is a success story. Bunting has been the same player for 3+ seasons, just never given a real chance. Still wouldn't have if Pitlick didn't go down.

Bunting should've got a shot at the start of the season instead of Chaput, Fasching, Hayden, Gauthier etc. Also think he should've got a look last year.

Garland got a shot, did well. Got sent down the next season, needed injuries to get called up again. Had to play like a 1W to get more than 13 minutes. Forced Tocchet to play him.

I expect Tocchet to yank Bunting around once guys are healthy as well.
