Big thing I'm seeing from Mclellan right now is putting trust in the players. Gustafsson is the same, he's been out there late defending the lead, that didn't really happen with Lalonde. The way Seider and Edvinsson were deployed might have been smart sometimes, but there's also something to be said for giving other guys opportunities to be the "hero". Chiarot, Motte and Berggren combining for that GWG could be massive for the confidence of those guys going forward.
This.
IMO some folks here, like I said when it happened, are thinking tactically, not strategically. Missing the forest for the trees.
T-Mac's #1 mission this season is to re-evaluate the whole team, top to bottom, and see what they are capable of on NHL ice, and give those data to Stevie the Wonder.
Winning games is maybe #2.
If they win games the entire time he's collecting his data, great. If they don't, great.
Reminds me of the scene in the movie
Crimson Tide, when there's a fire in the submarine's galley and Hackman's Captain character starts a missile drill. Denzel's Exec character disagrees and the Captain essentially replies with 'Do you know hard it is to generate real pressure in a peacetime environment?'
Real leadership is
not just about the "X"s and "O"s.
I was discussing this with a buddy who's a huge football fan today, as we drove down to Iowa to pick up a bunch of cats to transfer to the shelter I volunteer for. He said that even if I'm right, you could never gamble like that (make the challenge) in a football game, because there are so few of them per season that every play is important. To which I replied Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't watch football.
Anyway, f&^! Marc Crawford.
