Because they put him in the box to serve the bench minor. I'm the biggest Burger homer on these boards, but the one and only reason he was out there, was for the exact situation that unfolded. Anything else, and he's sprinting across the ice to let someone else hop on.
Fair enough, but they could have hedged their bets putting a Veleno or even a Motte, in the box . (Can't for the life of me remember who was on that PK)

Ras, Motte, Chiarot, and Seider

Chiarot blocked the shot, and Motte dove to get the puck to Burger.
Sorry, I've completely lost track by now after too many beverages. Pretty sure my point was that the new coaching staff thought more about the notion of springing a young scorer out of the box, than assuming we would need more D at the end of a PK to slow down the inevitable goal against by thirty seconds.
Never mind me... Happy new year all!

Motte was on the ice and assisted to the goal.

The coaches can't choose whichever player they want, they have to put one the 6 who were on the ice.

Edit. My bad I messed it up. It wasn't too many men it was unsuccessful challenge.

So many negative people post in here. We won the game, our new coach looks good, and we're not that far from a wild card spot.

Just be Happy! and thank God we're not Nashville with Stamkos lol
It's easy to feel good lately with the new coach around I'll admit that!

I was having a real tough time just watching this team prior. Legitimately.

I loved Burger since the SHL, and believed in this guy that he was going to be a really good player for us and still believe that he will be in that Nyquist-y, Tatar tier. It's really nice to see a coach give him the opportunity and him potting a few. Now, do AlJo next!
The problem I feel like with AlJo is his physicality.

Berggren I feel like can get away with not being all too chippy.

Oh hell I don’t what I’m talking about. Ive had a few too many ginger ales lol. Not gonna lie I haven’t been a big believer in Berggren but he’s showing up atm.

Also what a play by Motte.

Happy new year to you my loving Red and white friends.

I really like the challenge McLellan did in the end. He showed how much we prioritize getting a regulation W. Feels like we used to settle for overtime and "at least got one point"

Berggren was on the ice in the final minute of a tie game.

I just want to point out how vastly different usage is for our players right now. What a world of difference.
Big thing I'm seeing from Mclellan right now is putting trust in the players. Gustafsson is the same, he's been out there late defending the lead, that didn't really happen with Lalonde. The way Seider and Edvinsson were deployed might have been smart sometimes, but there's also something to be said for giving other guys opportunities to be the "hero". Chiarot, Motte and Berggren combining for that GWG could be massive for the confidence of those guys going forward.

I thought he was crazy to challenge it. There was no way they would call it back.
Their 2nd goal, was something to challenge.
Not big deal either way, I just hope he doesn't do this again. There was nothing to challenge that goal for.
Is this our first three game win streak this year? Nothing but positive thoughts today. Jets are in for a surprise
I believe so.

It's actually the second. The first one came in the second week of the season. We started out 1-3 and then had a 3 game win streak which bumped us to 4-3. Then immediately followed it up with a 3 or 4 game losing streak and it was downhill from there.

Hopefully that does not happen again

We leap frogged 2 teams last night and we're 4 points back of a wild card.

Everyone clamoring for a tank, sorry but McLellan has other plans.

Yep, the Sens are 3 games over 0.500 and the Bruins are only 4 games over 0.500 (currently 3rd, but the Bolts are 7 games over 0.500 and have 5 games in hand over the Bruins), so I think the both WC spots are currently within reach if the wings just keep playing f____g hockey.

Its our 2nd 3 gamer, but it is the 1st time all season we've score 4 goals or more per game over the course of 3 games. The Bergy goal was fantastic. Vets seem to have bought in, I saw Kane actually fighting for a puck along the boards and it blew my mind lol. Good resiliency overall by the team. Haven't seen that since last year.

It's been a treat to see a team competing on the regular. I had basically stopped watching most of the games under Lalonde. The hockey was unwatchable. This team still has some glaring holes and can have defensive zone panic sessions, but I feel like I'm watching controlled breakouts for the 1st time in 5 years.

As for Aljo, I hope Todd and team are helping him in practice right now. He has looked a step too slow in games and was often out skated/ out angled to the puck. Team is playing well, I have no issue sitting him until we lose or someone plays badly. Hopefully the additional structure will help him develop and slide back in.

Sens had probably the weakest schedule any team could have for December. It's only going to get tougher for them from here on out.

I think he is the luckiest man in the world right now. It's almost like a film.
We have to enjoy it while it lasts. He probably thought their 2nd goal was interference so it was a good chance they would call it off.

And 4th game in a row we win the special teams battle. Unbelievable.
What did it take so long for Yzerman to realise Lalonde was the problem?

I don't know that it's about realizing it. It's about finding alternatives, weighing the options, and finally pulling the trigger.

In one of the broadcasts they mentioned how before he became coach Mclellan had been watching Wings games and decided to split up Seider and Ed. It almost certainly wasn't a coincidence he'd been watching the Wings before he was hired. It's not like Stevie called Mclellan the minute he fired Lalonde and started negotiating the coach's contract. I'm sure he'd talked to him weeks ago.

You'd never guess which team has the hardest strength of schedule remaining

I know it's Detroit.
NHL Remaining Schedule Strength | Tankathon

If Detroit can go 6-4 in each of their 10 game blocks the rest of the way then they're a wild card team.

Boston is slumping. They've only scored as many goals as Detroit, which is crazy to think. Ottawa has a "weak" schedule left but are against some slumping teams like NYI and NYR that should be better than they are. They're going to eventually get better. Montreal is the team I'm worried about making the most of their weak schedule. They're 7-3 in their last 10 and look to be playing hard as a team. I don't think they're going to sneak into the postseason, but I'd imagine they work as a spoiler to some teams thinking they're an easy matchup.
