It’s frustrating seeing him get the puck and then look like he’s skating in molasses. The kid is nearly useless on the rush, and that ain’t going to change unless he makes major strides with his skating.

He might still end up being a very effective cycle player, but not on that line, and maybe not on this team…

He kills any rush when he gets handed the puck in the NZ. And it's not like he makes up for it with a high IQ or precision passing like Mark Stone. He's a less strong version of Pat Maroon at the moment.

This is some of the problem with 'accelerating' the build at every opportunity. You can still be aiming to improve as an organization and accept that improvement is going to be inconsistent. We've missed the playoffs for five straight years and as an entire market, as soon as we have a hot first half to a season, are ready to trade every potential piece we have for whatever is better right now.

It seems obvious now why this team is so much less the sum of its parts. We're locked into a veteran core that hasn't accomplished anything and has been on a steep decline 5v5 for 2 straight seasons. We've got a great record because, as is always, painfully the case, we have a phenom goalie and defenseman.

I think the refs are doing a great job in maintaining control of the game but also letting the players scrum and not dole out a ton of penalties.
