3-2 Sharks - Asky wins one for us. Quinn may be out, but so is Walman. Canucks are actually a middle of the pack team.

Everyone is predicting Celebrini success, so I'm gonna go the other way.

Smith (hopeful, not likely), Zetterlund, Wennberg.
For the media lulz, Pettersson, Miller.

Or, it's a reward for Askarov before they send him down again when Vanecek gets healthy. Don't think this start really means much in the greater scheme of things.

This.

Askarov still has things to work on and the team is not going to carry 3 goalies for the rest of the year when one of them can be sent down without consequence and get starter's minutes in the process.
Just this year we were gifted with "The Great Barrier Thief"

The NBA still has great nicknames, it's just hockey that sucks with everyone calling each other "Celly" or "Smitty", real creative shit there boys

NBA has some shit nicknames though. There are lots of ones that are just initials or initials plus number. Also I feel like a lot of the time NBA nicknames feel like branding exercises coming from the player themselves rather than given by teammates or reporters.

Happy to see some Grizzlies mentions though

I have minor Big Country 'nam flashbacks now though. He wasn't bad during his rookie season but it became clear quickly that he wasn't really big on playing basketball and he got out of shape and that destroyed him.

No word of a lie though, Shareef Abdur-Rahim was my very first favorite basketball player. And the first ever sports jersey I ever got. It's still in my closet somewhere.

I just ended up jumping ship from the Grizzlies to the Raptors during the rise of Vinsanity and once it became clear the team was not going to last here. Would love to see Vancouver and Seattle get new teams though and make like a "Pacific corridor" that stretches from the bay area, up through Sacramento, Portland, Seattle and ending in Vancouver.

I have friends who were working up there at the time. They had some joke going around about his name?
Something like "Sleep Country" (after some mattress store chain), or something.....

Yeah. Sleep Country is the biggest mattress/bed retail chain in Canada.

I think people kinda liked him as a rookie and he was decent. Nearly a double-double and a good sort of center that doesn't exist anymore. But then he got his big extension and started getting hurt and he turned into a big, immobile tub that just coasted through games.

He also wasn't helped by the fact that the league sold the Grizzlies' ownership a bill of goods by foisting league head office guy Stu Jackson on them as their first GM. He made some good expansion draft picks, but he seemed to alternate good draft picks with ass ones and never really felt like he was building a proper team as opposed to just a mess of talented guys that didn't fit together and also some junk players like Stromile Swift or Antonio Daniels or the debacle of drafting Steve Francis and then trading him for a mediocre return because they had no leverage.

Found my jersey too

Sadly not an authentic because then the collar/arm trim would've been that really cool native motif of claws and other stuff instead of just boring color bands.

Most NBA nicknames are someone's first initial with the first few letters of their last name or something a player gave himself and tries to convince other people to use.
