Next 2 weeks is probably the easiest remaining stretch of the season and then the schedule gets absolutely brutal.

Will be interesting to see if they can go on a little run.
Last year they played the better teams toe to toe mostly, it was the teams they should have beat were their demise…hopefully, they continue great play play no mattef who they play, a bit of puck luck helps too 😃

Happy New Year everyone 😃
Kasper had the least ice time of any forwards tonight. Starting to hit a bit of a rookie wall?
He was out on the PK, so coach evaluations ongoing

Are any of the people still around here who wanted Karlsson??

2 more years of a 34 year old Karlsson at $10 million AAV for the Pens.

It's not just Karlsson. Ryan Graves, in Year 2 of a six-year deal paying him $4.5M AAV, is sitting at zero points in 30 games playing bottom pair minutes, after a bad season in Year 1 of the contract. He's making the Chiarot, Holl,, Petry and Gus signings look good by comparison.

Tarasenko has not been good this year, but what a f**king pass from him to open the game up
I'm still maintaining some hope that he will improve from his season so far. He's not going to be what he was in his prime, but can you think of a worse environment to recover from a cup hangover than the Wings' locker room up until a few games ago?

If all he does is spring the occasional 3rd line goal to open or add to a game, I don’t need much more than that. He’s never going to be prime St Louis Tarasenko again.

Exactly. It would either make the other team's match-ups less efficient, or occasionally provide the secondary (tertiary?) scoring to make the difference when the top line is getting shut down. Right now, I'm going to suspend judgement on any of the players for a while.

That can't be right. I've been reasonably informed that not trading for Graves was the first of a series of mistakes that led to our current lineup.

It's nice to see all the improvements since McLellan. But end of the day...Chiarot-Petry-Holl-Gustafsson are still getting 67% of our defensive minutes. And we are hopeless.

If ASP is ready to go at the start of next yr, great...but we shouldn't count on it.

Chiarot can SURVIVE one more season as a #4 D, but that's about it.

Two NHL HC's have now determined that Johansson is not better than Holl/Gustafsson. Maybe he will never be an NHL player.

Wallinder is at least an entire yr away, if ever. Buium is not half as promising as him.

We need a major defensive makeover between now and next season. And it'd better not be the same people who thought signing Holl, Gustafsson, etc. orchestrating it.

1) NEED to find a long-term top-4 LHD. Someone sound defensively. Big, physical, mean. Fast. Talented enough to move the puck.

2) NEED to find a 3rd Pair RHD. Just someone decent. Competent. Sound defensively and fast. Hopefully big and physical. At least okay enough to breakout and handle the puck a little. Can sign him to a 2-3yr deal.

3) NEED to find a 3rd Pair LHD. Ditto above...but just on a one yr deal.

???---Seider

Edvinsson---Chiarot (then ASP)

??? (then Chiarot, then Wallinder next yr)---???

If you can't move Holl and Gustafsson between now and next season...buy them out or send them to GR for the yr. Neither should touch LCA ice in Red Wing jerseys next yr.

Also. It is unbelievable how slow and skill-less Copp is. He needs to be replaced by Kasper as C2 immediately.

And Tarasenko needs to be moved to his off-wing immediately.

And for Cripe's sake...please at least give Johansson a chance to beat out Holl/Gustafsson.

Veleno--Larkin--Raymond
DeB--Kasper--Kane
Copp/Berg/Ras--Compher--Tarasenko

Chiarot--Seider
Edvinsson--Petry(puke)
Johansson--Holl/Gustafsson

Another point for Veleno.
6 points in 8 games. One of the best players on the team last 10 games. He had 3 good plays tonight.
Kasper had the least ice time of any forwards tonight. Starting to hit a bit of a rookie wall?
He should be sent down.
Holy shit, what a difference in energy and attitude!
The all seem rejuvenated.
Watching Malkin's nonsense tonight made me discover that I am still viscerally angry about the instigator non-suspension in '09. Like literally getting hot under the collar at the thought of it.
Am I just good at holding a grudge, or is 15 years just not long enough?
I have not forgotten either.

3 games and we have won the special teams battles. PK looks so much better. We didn't get badly outshot as under Lalonde. The team was physical and there were some good hits. Line changes are far better and it reflects on puck possession and shots on goal.

I know for a fact I hold grudges longer than the normal person, and I don't think 15 years is enough. No Geno means we win game 3.

My 7 hours later thoughts:

Veleno you sir have earned a badge of honour on that first line. I love what you're cooking over there

Ben Chiarot you are on the first pair playing 23+ mins and holding your own? I commend you...

Berggren take that rope and slang it brother

Larkin take that ENG gift from 23 and go nuts. Go NUTS that streak is over

Play f***ing hockey boys let's get that playoff berth
