When will Babcock make Ericsson as a health scratch?

When the team gets defenders that are better. Kindl and Lashoff are still seeing time, so first thing is first here.

Ericsson is slumping, but we have a large body of his work to indicate he can be a physical shut-down defender with nice vision. You don't just jettison that when your defense can barely move the puck as it is.

Never seen a defense so inept at generating offense. A group of fast forwards is useless when they have to carry the puck 2/3 of the way up the ice. We haven't had an odd-man break in our favor in forever.

Agreed.

Forwards are tired because they have to do way too much work to get the puck up the ice.

Just funny how Ottawa can look superior against us, but they won't see the playoffs at this season.

There isn't a team in the league that can't get hot and surprise even the best teams.

But that's not even happening, here. Detroit just looks rough. And they have for awhile now. The goals dried up. I really thought this team was over that issue from last year, but I was wrong. It's hard to watch.

Yup and this is why we need an elite PMD, We just don't have any D that can get it out of our own end and it's just not helping our wingers out.

Ericson main cause of both Red Wings goals

After seeing a replay on that second goal, I'd put more of the blame on DK. He just blindly threw the puck up the boards and in to Ericssons feet, who was surrounded by Sens. Not much E could do there.

And while I love pinning blame on 1 guy for a goal, how about this team score a couple of goals. Maybe even 3? I'm getting greedy here.

perhaps not pass it back causing Ottawa to be onside for the goal.

Ericsson has never possessed "good vision" nor has he been considered a "shut-down" defender by anyone with any sense. He's had stretches of solid play mixed in with what we see now. I don't know what large body of Ericcson's work you have watched.

I don't know, his 350+ games as a Red Wing. If he doesn't shut down people (he does, he's often called upon for that role over the years) and he doesn't have good vision (he has a great first pass) then what the hell is he even doing in the NHL, let alone getting top minutes from Babcock?

It's one thing to not like a guy, it's another to pretend he doesn't have any qualities that deserve credit.

Sure, maybe, but that's a desperate move to bring in a rookie to jump start offense.

There's no excuse the players ON THE ICE shouldn't be able to score. Tatar, Nyquist, Smith, Jurco, Sheahan... these were the guys we wanted called up in permanent roles, here they are, and it's not getting done. This, on top of the usual Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen.

Hard to say what the answer it lately, since this team has shown the firepower to get it done, but it's certainly not working as intended.

Ericsson could have done anything other than what he did. Eat the puck on the boards and save time. Don't put the puck back into your own zone. DK made a simple play and got it out. He is going to make simple plays like that. Ericsson makes way too many plays where he thinks he is being clever but results in a turnover and a goal against.

This post can't be serious. If Ericsson has such a great first pass why in the world are we so starved for a puck moving d-man? Where has his great first pass been this season? Just because you get top minutes doesn't make you a top player, or "shut-down" guy. It's not black and white...his performance has always been inconsistent, ranging from pathetic to decent. Your scouting report on Ericsson doesnt jibe with reality.

Well, it is serious. I'm not sure what Ericsson you've seen either. He's decent at best? Alright. Pretty impressive a guy with no skills can hang how he does for this long.

And it's not like I'm excusing his recent play, but man, he's way better than you're making out. You're basically describing Lashoff.
