I want an actual number one center. Preferably drafted so we don't have mortgage the entire system + pay them through the nose in cap percentage.

When was the last time the Rangers had a legit #1 center?

For many many years I was of the opinion that you build a team from the net out. In a salary cap world, you need to build around a #1 center and a #1 dman. All the other pieces can be acquired in other ways. But you need those two pieces.

ZIb was a legit #1 Center. Unfortunately it was only for like 3 years

It makes sense when you think about it.

By definition, second effort needs to come after an initial effort. So yeah... that tracks.

The coach can say whatever he wants. When you look at the current D core and Jones can't crack that, the organization clearly doesn't believe in him. He started out well and then fizzled out after he got comfortable, playing the same shitty way as the rest of the D. This offseason it's time to either move on and revamp this D or change the way they play.

You know the thing is, unlike other teams, if we get James Hagens #1 OA we're just going to destroy his development like every other forward we pick and spend the rest of time arguing how much of a bust he was

So uh... I just hope we pick defensemen in the draft for the rest of my life. At least we do mediocre with them instead of abysmal
