Yeah, I noticed on the first goal he gave Murphy the death glare. Poor kid looked away like a scolded puppy.

Many of you seem to blame Smith. I think he kept us in the game. You can't expect to win when you score 1 goal and other than that create NOTHING. Hanzal (0 points in the let 5 gms), Vrbata (1 assist in the last 5 games) needs to find their game again. Tim Kennedy just isn't a good fit with them, or at any other top 6 position on this team for that matter. We need DOan back and we need him now.

As for the D, I think we need to change things up a little, I'm hoping that both Morris and Rundblad plays vs Toronto. And thinking that one of schlemko, stone, murphy sits (assuming Z i still hurt). Murphy is looking great but maybe the tempo and schedule is catching up to him a bit, he is just a kid after all.

Has Smith been called with Diving/Embellishment yet? I have to think that eventually he is going to make a name for himself and eventually get some penalties or the referees will let play continue and allow an easy goal with a wide open net.

Edit: Also, I don't blame Smith for this game, I thought he did pretty good. I do however blame our offense.

.

I think we're talking about his diving more than his play. He has been solid for the past 2 games. There is no reason this team should not be able to score 2 goals a game. There are just some blind Smith haters who are so used to him playing below average this year, that when he is solid they can't differentiate between the two. We should have one at least one of these past 2 games. When Smith only lets in 2 goals and his save percentage is around .920 then 99% of the time he's done his job.

I agree on everything you are saying. He has played well but I have never liked divers as well. That and his way of always shake his head and make big gestures at players every time he lets one through makes it hard for me to like him 100%. Even if he makes 100% of the saves…

Did Smith Dive??? I don't know for sure. But If He Did? He Got Us A Man Advantage!!! What did We do with it??? NOTHING!!!!

File this under unclear on concept. When is it Doan's Job to sit Players Who may or may not be playing up to certain standard as One Poster has suggested in this thread?
That's the Coach's Job. And Yes I blame Him for the Let Down In the Level Of Play in the second and third period last night. And other nights. Coach's Coach! They don't just yell after the game is over. Someone is not playing up to level sit them. If they can be sent down. Send them down. DO YOUR JOB!

What I think most of you won't understand is most of what wjf says is in all actuality pretty true. I won't name names, but there are some of us that can't look at actual faults. Rather you throw the blinders on and disregard reality of the team, management and players involved.

With that said you're all still my boys, wjf included.

Something needs to give, though.

Quoted for truth. WJF is like the angry fan from the major league movies who flips his hat upside down and X's everything on his fan apparel. Starts the year with positivity, then turns into this ranting glass is half empty they're gong to blow it when it matters type. I actually find it humorous but only because I loved those movies and every time he posts I think of him as that guy.
WJF at the 45 second mark...

Karma baby, Smith dives and we're shut out on the pp.

The other poster you mention did not say Doan should sit Smith, he said he should sit down with Smith and explain that big boys (and especially real men) should not dive.

edit: Okay I added the big boys and real men part

I still don't understand how a Dave Tippett team with a supposedly stellar D core and a legit #1 goalie can sit 26th in Goals Against???

OK so we only scored 1 goal against the Habs but offense is generally not the problem with this team (5th overall in goals per game and 8th in PP).

Thanks for clearing that up. And that big boys and real men part would fit in to my post too haha

Exactly, and now I almost feel ashamed that he's been my favourite player for so long. He's done a complete 180 since Tampa, in terms of performance AND stupid stuff like diving and glaring. It was never like this.

I love the wild stuff, as long as it's against the other team. Like when he grabbed a stick from an Avalanche player and smashed it last year. When he was in Tampa he fought Chris Neil when he got slewfooted (pre-dive era). That I find awesome. The temper tantrum's against his own team, and the glaring however I do not find awesome.

Keep the performance. Keep the wild side against the other team. Lose the diving. Lose the glaring against your own team.

Thank For helping Me get something off My chest also. I meant what I said about Tip.

Look this is My adopted team. I am a Big Fan of The Coyotes. I'm a STH. I am invested in the team for 3 years now. Since Moving to Phx. I don't accept losing and just say "OH Well". Maybe there is nothing more to be done this year? But Changes have to be made. If We are to become a Winning Team. Otherwise that Banner will be the Only Banner, hanging there.

Next time there is a meet and greet with the Coyotes I'm going to tell Smith his diving is embarrassing to the fans. Seriously sick of the basketball/soccer flopping. This is ****ing hockey.

I've been complaining about this since the Blackhawks series a few years ago. His antics (and Ribeiro's, to a lesser extent) really stand out on this team, so it's got to be of his own volition (as opposed to a team-wide style, as we've seen with some other organizations). Given what folks said about Bryz after he left, and given that they seem to actually get along with Smith, I'm surprised no one has reined him in.

I think Smith will always *look* like he's diving because...well...he's just kinda tall and goofy (I mean, witness the pizza ads). And he's wearing all that gear. It was even worse last year when he had that hair floppin' around.

I would personally be very happy about the goal, but not so much about the dive.

I've sat on the bench with guys that appreciate a teammates ability to dive, they would smile and snicker under their breath at the ability to get a call. I think unless we're willing to appreciate it when the Dustin Browns of the world burn us with a dive, we can't have it both ways.

But who knows, in the end maybe it's good to have a guy or two that other teams and their fans love to hate?
