Who said we played great, you certainly didn't get that out of my post?

Read the state of the Jackets thread on my thoughts for the rest of the season. I'm not going to ride the angst train with the rest of you. My expectations are appropriately set. I'm looking for certainly things and wins aren't necessary for my to see the improvement I want.

Reset expectations and move on already peeps.

Sorry, not your post directly.

I'm not riding it angst - as I said, I want to see more youngsters get some NHL experience, some practices with Torts, etc. And if we can tank a little harder along the way...gravy.

The draft lottery has been radically modified this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a team or two from the 6-10 range move up to the 2nd or 3rd pick.

I'm content with most of our roster and I think we need to build for next season; so I'm not really on any type of "play the kids" or any attempt to tank. I just want to see noticeable progress in our system/structure. I'd also like to see a lot of individual improvement from about 3 or 4 our our players, eg: Murray, Wennberg.

Ok. I guess we disagree about the current roster. I don't see it - especially on the back end. And too many expensive contracts for guys who are struggling to produce.

Reading Arace's column about how it will take time to turn things around. He quotes Tortorella as saying "there will be constant teaching trying to turn this into instinctive play thus good habits." My question is Hockey really this complicated? Were the CBJ lacking in basic team fundamentals under Todd Richards that Tortorella has to start from scratch?

The Columbus Blue Jackets have a legacy of mediocrity. We have replaced every position from president to puck polisher with a consistent result of mediocrity. Torts is being chewed up by that legacy as Richards and Hitch were before him. No trade will or personnel change will save this team from itself. They must do it. Last year was the year to kill the legacy, we had injuries instead. This year it will take a miracle to salvage the season yet the legacy of mediocrity will follow the team unless they make a deep playoff run. So we are left with next season. If ever there was a team that is mentally harnessed by who and what they are it is the CBJ.

Hope Joonas shuts them down for his first win. Looks like Curtis has seen his last action for the foreseeable future here if Korp plays well.

I don't understand why they keep rolling Clarkson out there now that Boll is healthy. Clarkson has been complete garbage and before he got hurt, Boll was playing some good hockey. Wennberg needs to be in press row as well, or better, Cleveland

I think it's a bunch of gobbledeegook.

Torts is buying time, me thinks. The notion that Hartnell, Dubinsky, JJ, Tyutin, Foligno and other veterans don't grasp "nuances" and can't sense "shifts in momentum" sounds like, quite frankly, crap.

Torts has referenced this stuff before. I think that, in addition to buying time, that he's trying to build some questionable narrative that makes him look like a turnaround and teaching genius, if this ship rights itself. Keep in mind, this is likely his last coaching job if he fails. He's possibly trying to make his task look harder than it actually is.

It's also a not-too-classy way of throwing Richards under the bus. I was born at night, but not last night. The notion that the veterans on this team, which made a nice run at the Penguins in the playoffs two years ago and which had two incredible winning streaks last year, don't grasp some very basic fundamentals about the game, is a lame narrative which only the extremely naive will buy into.

On the other hand, going down 3-1 before trying to make a valiant comeback almost every game suggests he may be right.

I think he's exaggerating and trying to lower expectations. This team is very good when they play with emotion. When they don't (the start of games for example) or when they're pressured or they have expectations placed upon them, they make a lot of mental errors. At best, they're very inconsistent. That has to change.

Man it would be nice if we could start getting some bounces.

Saad hitting the post was par for the course lately.

Liking the focus so far.. Nice sense of urgency which is leading to a lot of decent looks. Keep this up and we just might have a chance!
