One of the hallmarks of Schwartz coaching seems to be to wear the biggest equipment possible. Thats probably why every goalie he teaches seems to have trouble with their glove side and also catching pucks. We’ve also seen many of the goalies he’s trained struggle with rebound control.
In Skinners case in particular it’s pretty obvious huge gear seems to be a detriment in several ways. First he’s already a huge guy and doesn’t have the most efficient movement so bigger gear is going to be more of a hindrance than a benefit. He also doesn’t have the coordination to trap pucks against his body and a bigger chest protector is causing pucks to trampoline off his body. He’s needs more well fitted gear that prioritizes ease of movement and killing puck momentum over just trying to take up as much net as possible.
