But fundamentally we don't even have players without the puck that want to go there. That's the problem. Players driving the center lane open up space for other players to either jump into the voids that the first player created or to take advantage of passing lanes. But our entire strategy is basically to post up on both sides of the boards and then maybe have somebody download behind the net. And then maybe cycle it around aimlessly until we try to force across ice pass. There's no center house space presence whether it's on the rush or when there's zone pressure
I think the way they play is a problem, yes, but positing up and looking for a homerun pass is the system.

Either because this team is run by brainlets or they don't have the ability to do anything else to generate offense.

I'm leaning towards both.

100% - we tend to back off as if there's a barbedwire fence in that house area most of the time. Same with our forecheck/dirty areas down low and corners. We need more players bulldozing their way through there.
Now I'm going to take this a step further. This organization had absolutely no vision and no creative passing built into it when bread showed up. Bread brought a swagger and a vision to him that unlocked a passing creativity throughout the roster when he first got here. Players follow his lead. Since he has become a perimeter player the rest of the players have followed suit. I don't understand how people are unable to see the change. I'm not trying to dump this all on him, I understand that things happen to players that affect how they play as they get older and deal with injuries in the professional careers, but at some point the organization has to establish what is an acceptable level of commitment and willingness from its players. These guys get treated like absolute kings by this organization, it's ridiculous how they all act as if they can't go into dirty areas of the ice that are hard to plan. When bread was willing to do it other players would do it, since he's become unwilling to go into those areas other players watch and follow suit. And a kickery to all of this is that bread is still getting all the power play time in the world while he continues to set a bad example that other players are following at 5v5. There's a level of blame that goes to him but truthfully with the injury that he had it's understandable that he adjusted how he played. It's unacceptable for the coaching staff to not adjust standards for him and reinforced standards for other players.

Total points for rangers last 6 first round picks Laf 13. Chytil 12. Miller 10. Kaako 9
Schneider 7. Kratsov 2 Total of 53. Hughes alone has 34. That is pathetic that they are that bad at first round picks.

Late goal makes it look ok but that was a hilariously inept period.
Devils look like they are almost perfectly organised to expose our roster and game plan flaws.
Terrible turnovers by Trouba (multiple), Lindgren and Kreider lead to fantastic scoring opportunities, and all because we are too slow and casual with the puck.
The lack of puck speed is a reason why we need to play Jones, warts-and-all, so we can get him used to transitioning at NHL pace.

Chytil is the only forward who seemingly fully understands and embraces the need to get pucks on net and create traffic in front.

He gets put in situations he shouldn't be in, but Vesey is an absolute bargain contract right now.
The first 10 minutes were bad, the next 10 were fine.

Adding plugs has been the approach since the firing of Gorton & JD. The list is long of Gallant's "good old boys" and big muscle men signed after Drury and Gallant knocked their hockey heads together.
Adding plugs has been the approach since Rod Gilbert, Homo Erectus, and Jesus were on a line together.

More from Igor needed. He’s a different player on the road, it’s def bc of his baby at home.

I have a 2 year old and 4 month old. It drains me and I just sit at a desk all day.
I agree on your first sentence but some things are just bigger than hockey. Again he is still 13-4-4. If Halak wasn't 1-6-1 our season would look a lot different at this point.

Shesterkin looks like shit right now too. Couple pucks beat him, just missed the net and he looked at them like he couldn’t believe it.

You are counting 2 defensemen, Kravs who has played in like 5 games, and Chytil who has missed about 10 games with injury.

this team just doesn't have an answer to the Hughes/Bratt/Zetterlund types, Mercer included.
this is why I'm very intrigued at the dream scenario of Zegras requesting out of Anaheim and NYR jumping all over that. The only time we can acquire proper talent needed to win is when it's someone who wants to game the system and move to our bright lights location.

If we had Zegras taking draws and pushing the limits with offensive aggression every shift we wouldn't end up bent on all fours when we try and match the play of the Colorado Devils

I just posted about this, but this team has followed what bread has done since he got here. When he got here the players here followed his creative side and tried to think outside of the box and be more creative. At that time he was still willing to penetrate and go into hard areas of the ice. Since his injury he's not willing to do that and all the other players are basically following suit except for a couple. It's completely on the staff in the organization that they haven't held other players accountable. Everybody within that organization knows about bread. It's ridiculous that everybody's being let off the hook to follow in the footsteps that he's been allowed to go to now. He is a perimeter player and he's going to remain that way. We've seen it with other players that have had head injuries. The issue is that the rest of the roster is following suit on him. Either a message has to be sent to him on some level or a message sent to the rest of the roster, but the overall way in which this core plays and is prepared is just completely unacceptable. It's the same thing now that it was the first week of the season. In the first week of the season people were defending it and I can understand why coming off of the run last year, but there's things that you could see right from the get-go and even in the scrimmages that were streamed that screamed issues because players kept staying on the outside. We've continued that now into 30 games into the season. We can beat bad teams or teams that are missing their best players, but we're going to struggle against above average teams, and the majority of the rest of our schedule is against above average teams. We have the hardest schedule remaining for every team in the league. We are in trouble

And we have barely anything to show for any of those players +Miller + Hayes + Buch.

A can't miss rebuild ended up DoA
To be completely honest, never never never understood the total rebuild.

I mean realistically from selling/non-contending years we have Miller, Schneider, Othmann, 1st rounder (for Nils), Kravtsov to show for it.

So in some ways, its atleast 3 players that will likely be here for a long time in prominent roles, and 2 possible trade pieces (1st might still be here who knows, Krav likely no in future plans whether TDL or offseason).

We lucked into Kakko, Laf and Panarin.

If anyone was going to be able to "retool" it was us with Hank in net. In the end we would likely be in a rebuild now anyways, but I was always confused why it was a full teardown when we still had Hank

no doubt just don't know the solution. Obviously play him every game outside of the metro area because he is a much different goalie right now when outside of a 60 mile radius from his home

The Devils had zero shots in the second half. It wasn't that bad and without Trouba we might even be up a goal.
