*sigh* is it possible to have a reasonable conversation with ANY Bruins fans? I mean, I know par for course is each round your opponent fans are generally going to be pretty biased and hard-headed (both ways)...but they're just incredibly arrogant. AND they think the refs are after them still...AND that the Staal cross-check was the most egregious hit in the entire series. Not to mention somehow they're the "most dominant" team left in the playoffs (you know, bc after a 7 and 6 game series, they're up 2-0 after 2 home games on the WC1 team, so...DOMINATING)

If we lose this game I am going to sit in the corner and pout until we win.

...Yes, if we get swept that means I will be stuck there all summer until our first win next season.

...

After speaking with my boss, he told me he understands...

...

...sorry, stopped listening after that, apparently he understands how upset I would be but I will be fired if I'm not actually "working" or whatever...

I don't care, this is my hill to die on!!

...

After consulting with my bank account (at the urgings of one of the voices in my head) I have determined this is not a sound life choice...I may be switching to internal pouting and internet raging to hold me over in this instance...

Just make things easy on me and WIN!!!

Boston fans are insufferable. They live vicariously through their teams moreso than any other city's fans, so they think that just because their teams have won a lot of championships in the last 15-20 years that that somehow makes them superior people who are god's gift to sports. It's the same way with Pats and Red Sox fans, there's just no rationalizing with them. If you don't acknowledge them as the best thing ever, you're just an ignorant, jealous hater.

Well, these jerks better AT LEAST win 2 games this series (preferably 4 ; ) b/c i've got my mom 75 percent bought into to traveling down to a potential game 6 in Raleigh as an early bday gift :) This woman has literally never seen a hockey game live in her entire life! Can't let her down now

I'm not going to comment on ALL Bruins fans. But the loudest of them are ....um.....let's just say it does not surprise me that drama seems to follow this team into every thread and leave it at that.

I've got plans to be in Boston for Game 5 on my birthday, but I'm not going to the game if we're down 3-1. We need to win the next two.

Having said that, I'm just happy that it's May 14th and I get to watch a Hurricanes game tonight and not post 23 times in the draft thread. I'm proud of the entire gang, including Brindy and the coaches. I'm curious to see who's in goal and whether it matters, but mostly, I'm just looking forward to the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up. The Bruins aren't unbeatable. It just seems, similar to 2009, that we've hit an emotional wall. I'm hopeful the fans can give them the boost they need for the next two, I'm hopeful we can balance out the special teams ledger a bit, and I'm hopeful we can make this a series, but if none of that happens, we had a great season and the future is downright exiting.

I had a dream that we were down 0-3 in the first period with Mac in goal. Lucky for us, my dreams don't ever come true.

My heart wanted us to win this series, but my brain had Bruins in 6. We looked completely outmatched the first two games. I take that back, we looked outmatch the 3rd of Game 1 and that bled over into Game 2. This is reminding me a bit of 2009 when that other black/gold team swept us in the ECF. We look completely gassed and tired. Does make you wonder if having all that time off was a bad thing for this team. They can't seem to get back to that fighting mentality you need in the playoffs. Well, whatever happens, gotta be proud of these boys. If you told me back in October that we would be playing the Bruins in the ECF, I would take it. But with that said, I just don't want a sweep. Don't want to give those massholes any satisfaction of a sweep. Make them sweat just a little.

Home ice advantage is going to be big. It helps cover Rod's tactical deficiencies. The 5v5 line matching for Rod in game 1 and 2 was a jumbled mess:

Slavin VsTOI With%
Charlie Coyle10.529%
Danton Heinen10.228%
Sean Kuraly10.027%
Chris Wagner9.927%
Brad Marchand9.626%
Patrice Bergeron9.626%
Joakim Nordstrom9.225%
David Pastrnak8.623%
Jake DeBrusk8.623%
David Krejci8.623%
Marcus Johansson8.323%
David Backes6.919%
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Slavin played almost even minutes against the entire Bruins roster. That is not ideal by any measure. The whole lineup looks like this and for me that goes a long way to answer why the Canes looked so disjointed for much of the game.

Carlo vsTOI WithTOI%
Sebastian Aho17.758%
Teuvo Teravainen17.457%
Andrei Svechnikov13.444%
Warren Foegele7.825%
Justin Williams6.722%
Nino Niederreiter6.220%
Jordan Staal5.518%
Lucas Wallmark4.214%
Micheal Ferland3.812%
Brock McGinn3.812%
Jordan Martinook2.69%
Greg McKegg2.68%
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Compare this to Brandon Carlo (Bruins shutdown pair) to see where the Canes want to be.

This doesn't look too bad to me. Far from a tactical deficiency on Brind'Amour's part. Hamilton against Marchand - Bergeron - Pastranak is a matchup to get away from. The same holds true for Fleury - de Haan and Brind'Amour have kept their minutes against the big line limited.

Unless Brind'Amour goes SlavinPesce, I'm pretty sure we won't see a Carlo-like distribution for Slavin tonight.

so we've got three birthday celebrations covered. The poster who's birthday is tonight; your birthday for game 5, and my early bday for game 6 :) We just need someone to cover for game 4 and we should be good ;)

Faulk played essentially the same distribution. Every Boston forward lines 1-4 fell into 20-29%:

Slavin ended up with 44% TOI against the Ovechkin line and 38% TOI against the Barzal line. It would be an outlier for Slavin to end up with 1) only 29% ice time utilized against any one line and 2) have that top matchup be against Heinen-Coyle-Johansson who is the B's 3rd line.
