Sutherland can talk to the other ref in between periods and explain the way things work in the real world.

In the real world, there's no way that conversation takes place.....both refs will be on their phones getting their 3rd period bets in.

It's not a good night for the refs when more than half of the penalties on the Rangers are not actual penalties.

I don't for a second believe that the ref meant to get in the way of Panarin, but after that happens, you don't call the most ticky tacky thing of all time 10 seconds later.

The retaliation ALWAYS gets called. Maybe they make it up down the line later in the game, but in the moment the Refs are just super sensitive to that stuff. This one just happened to be a retaliation to a ref directly affecting the play. Feels absolutely appropriate, to be honest.
