Yeah at the end of the day we don't know who we'll match up better against this year in general, and at this point in the season more importantly.

We'll have a better idea at the end of this week.

Why do I think Edmonton is the bigger challenge. Mainly because of what they did last year to us, that Price had to make a lot of big saves on Saturday, and because of Vancouver's situation in goal. But we'll see at he end of the week.
They are better in goals then EDM

Serious question, why hasn't edmonton traded RNH yet? A talented young center could fetch a solid return for building a more complete team.
They are really thin on the wings. Yamamoto might bring in some talent there finally. Even then though...remove RNH and it's just Neal and Yamamoto left.

I'd rather Price play against Edmonton and let Allen start against Vancouver and play on Saturday night. The Edmonton game should be the hardest of the 4 games. So better to have Price in net for it.
Wasn't the point of bringing in Allen and paying a back up as much was so we don't have to really all that much about when to play him? We can trust him to do well.

Having $10.5 million in one goaltender is ridiculous if you can’t rely on him to start him 3 games in 6 nights with a rest coming up with back to backs vs Vancouver. But I do somewhat understand the decision given the type of schedule this season has. Will look bad if Allen gets lit up in just his first game against an Oilers team that will be hungry and has star power up front.

Overusing you 10.5M goalie so he is less effective come playoff time when you have a capable backup is more ridiculous. Of course Price could play tonight but the plan is to have a rested Price come playoff time and to do that Allen needs to get more than the B2B's. Of course that is dependent on Allen being capable of doing the job.. If he is expect him to get 18-20 starts this year or about 1 in 3.

RNH is a center who they force on wing.

Trade him for a winger+

He alternates wings/center with McDavid.
You probably wouldn't get a better winger trading him, you won't get two top 6 wingers either, and they still have big holes on defense. I wouldn't move him unless it's for a legit top 2 Dman.

But the "problem" they have is that... They're not really in a position to dismantle their most dominant line, since RNH-Drai-Yamamoto just clicks, likely more than with whichever winger they could get for RNH, considering he is a UFA at the end of this season.

Whatever it may be, he should've been trade bait a while ago.

Maybe so but RNh should've been traded a long time ago. The fact they had 3 top end centers with zero wingers is baffling.

If we're going to look back...there's a shitload of things they should have done. They had Eberle and Hall as wingers, they moved them for bad returns.
Keeping RNH isn't the problem, it's all the moves they made that failed. No reason to think moving RNH would have put them in a better position giving all their shortcomings in previous trades.

Crazy that they gave up two 2nds for Athanasiou and then let him walk after a bad 15 game stint. I would have at least tried him again at 1.2M for another year.
