The team literally did this last year

After the winless start the team went on an 18 game stretch where they played .500 hockey and a bunch of people were like, "are the Sharks actually good?"

They proceeded to only win 10 more games for the rest of the season

We still haven't played most of the best teams in the league, and outside of thw New Jersey game that we definitely deserved to lose we are winless against all the best teams we've played (Dallas, Winnipeg, Colorado, Vegas, Vancouver, Minnesota, NYR)

The draft pick will come everyone, no need to fret

Good win by the boys! I'm interested to see them against a contender to get a real view of what this group has. Tbh if they beat a team like Vegas or Winnipeg, I'll be happy. Those are the kind of wins that will help with the overall confidence.

Kids are allright, Ceci got his first goal. Nice!

A part of me started to believe they could sustain this and this post helped me crush that dream to avoid future disappointment. Thank you

hahaha, well, at least they wont crush our dreams in april/may as it was for 20 years.

I dont think they will sustain a 9-6-3 record going forward. But I also dont think they will revert to 8-10 game losing streaks.

The big difference is that with smith, celly, wennberg, and toffoli, the sharks have 4 more top 9 forwards than last year. (maybe 3 if you count hertl, possibly 2 if you count duclair.) Either way, their forward crew is definitely well upgraded, and even dyl, gundy, and kostin are better than Hoffman, Lebanc, Barabonov, etc.

On D, Walman is currently a no brainer all star. Ceci is providing solid vet, reliable play. They are way better on the back end with those two eating well over 1/3 of the game.

lastly, and very importantly, their coaching is vastly upgraded. Quinn was a horrific hire, and Wario is getting the most out of the guys.

The sharks are not a playoff team, barring a miracle, but even their losses are close. the only games where the sharks were NOT tied or leading in the third were chi, Wpg, COL, LA, VGK and Since the 0-7-2 start, just minny, NYR, DAL. In other words, since the slow start, They have been tied or leading in the 3rd period in 15 out of 18 games. They ultimately lost 9 of those games, and two of the three games where they werent at least tied in the 3rd, they were within one goal in the third in all. 17/18 games within a goal in the third period.

last year, they had countless games they were completely out of. its completely different, and trending up. No doubt they will suffer many losses from now, and their game is not clean, but if they stay healthy, anything can happen. This team is not likely to finish bottom 4.

I expect to keep seeing these posts as Macklin raises the cup over his head this year

I'm okay with our lottery odds in a mediocre draft year dipping if it means Celebrini, Smith and Eklund aren't subjected to the misery of massive losing streaks. We will almost certainly end up with a top 5 pick regardless.

I have the same feeling. I’m expecting a top 5 pick but if a miracle happens and they finish much higher in the standings, well, that means the rebuild is going far better than we expected and our kids are tasting what winning is like.
