I feel bad for Sam. Imagine last year hoping/thinking maybe you get to call one more championship before you retire. Then this season hoping maybe in a fairytale you get that on your way out for retirement. Man, I've really tried to see why people hate on Miller so much; it certainly seems like a majority of HF posters. But I can't. He looks like a fine top4 defenseman to me.

Other than his lazy coasting and general fluffy poke check only play, his repeated soft shots into skates and various body parts, his inability to body anyone and his careless backhand passes to no one and lastly his "Stevie wonder" dzone breakdowns.

100%. And even though he seems to make more egregious mistakes than Schneider and Jones, he really does recover on a bunch of them.

If anything, with his production down this year, I'd be leaning even more toward resigning him long term. I imagine the number would be looking pretty good right now.

His agent isn't stupid. He's going to get a big contract whether it is here or somewhere else. He's probably never a top pair guy but he's a 2nd pair guy most teams would love to have.
