Parayko was only paired with Krug for ~400 minutes at 5v5 over the 4 seasons Krug has been on the roster. So they never really got minutes to prove if they’d work. For reference, Parayko had 5300 minutes at 5v5 over that period, so 7.5% of his minutes were with Krug
And why is 400 minutes an insufficient sample size?

Something from the Post-game Show. Monty is basically a communicator. He's more into allowing players to make mistakes, learn from them, and talk to the players about how to fix it in the future. Allows the players to go out, play their game without the fear of getting reprimanded. Everything I'm hearing so far is also he's coaching to teach, not to win. Wins are just bonus right now.

yep nice win
I think it was their best all-around game this season. A lot of this is due to Jim Montgomery a highly organised coach, who knows how to get the best from the players he has, and to bring in a winning attitude. Imagine what he'll be able to do with this team after more young, very talented players start rolling in.

A lot of those minutes were accumulated in a fashion that doesn't really work out in determining if players would be a good pairing. For example, Parayko has ~300 5v5 minutes with Faulk over the same time period, and they were never directly paired together.
