We got handed some bad drafts when we had our kicks at the can.

So did NJ with their 9 lottery picks in 11 years but they stuck it out to get Hughes. We shot our load and decided this was the Cup roster.

Lots and lots and lots of much better players.

Don’t really care about the result too much, especially when the team has afforded themselves a lot of room to slump, but it is once again how they are playing that is the issue. We all wanted to believe it was coaching and I do think Laviolette has made some difference. But at the end of the day it comes down to the guys who are playing. We have a top line with a soft shoot first center who thinks he’s a playmaker and refuses to go to the middle of the ice, a lw who has no hands and used to be good on the boards but is clearly to the same guy he used to be and no top line RW. A top pairing LD who has zero offensive capabilities, a 2nd pairing that is slow as dirt, who suck defensively and rent particulary good in the offensive zone. 3rd line with no identity, 4th line that has good wingers but no center who can keep up.

Team absolutely could’ve used Kane on the cheap. He wouldve cost less than what Detroit paid him because he wanted to be here.

2017 is a lot of Just A Guys. Robert Thomas who wasn't a reasonable choice seems the best. People will retcon loving Martin Necas but I don't believe them. Necas and Nick Suzuki are nice 2nd liners on a championship team.

2018 I felt like Noah Dobson was a layup in a spot where they didn't need a home run because a double would be fine. Actually a worse draft than 2017 in the 1st. Lot of crap.

2019 Seider and Boldy ended up pretty good, not much past that. More injuries than normal. Cozens is another nice 2nd liner on a championship team.

Machinehead is right, they weren't good drafts.

2019 was the best one and Gordon gets assassinated if he takes anyone but Kakko. Ditto Lafreniere.

Definitely. But also he’s not really making things happen. When you cause a little havoc sometimes you get breaks. And that line - while playing their usual great defense - is unwilling to get their hands dirty in the offensive zone. Again, I love the defense and it’s a pre-requisite. But there needs to be more urgency in the offensive zone. At least a couple shifts per period. Not just when the goalie is pulled at the end.

I think Cuylle could *possibly* be the perfect fit with Mika and Kreider. Not saying he’s ready but he does play the right way to compliment those two fancy boys.
