The only Ullmark goal I have a problem with is that last one. He looked so small in net and it was a muffin of a shot - the type of shot you'd be angry at Chabot for taking. Yet it goes in when players on the other team take it.

But I don't blame Ullmark at all. He kept us in that game. He kept us in the San Jose game. He was a huge part in us getting 3 of 6 potential points as pathetic as that sounds because 3/6 still means we are losing ground on the last playoff spot in our division and the wildcard spots.

That was just a breakaway. If we have a 3 on 2 we just freeze up and give it away.
He was way ahead of the other Sens forwards, almost at the Ducks blueline when Jensen fed him the pass. Definitely cheating for offense. Luckily it was Jensen passing it otherwise it could've come right back into our D zone, hemming them in and Brady nowhere to be found. But it won't be mentioned because he happened to score this time.

These are the players I am satisfied with so far this season (results vs expectations, role and talent level)

Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris, Gaudette, Chabot, Jensen, JBD, Forsberg

Giroux I guess too considering he's 36 now

That's barely 50% of the spots on the team

Of course we're not going to make the playoffs if we don't get a much better "rate"

Are you sure you're talking about the last one? It was a broken play, a bit lucky to be honest, Vatrano is on the puck before any of the 3 Sens players. Hamonic's positioning actually makes the goalie job harder and he even deflects the puck. I would have liked Ullmark to be more square and faster but can't pin that as a bad goal in any way, shape or form.

Once Brady has two goals in a game we can forget about him passing the puck. He'll shoot everything trying for the hatty.
Careful, that sounds like the definition of a selfish player, some people on this board may get upset. 😉

My question is, where has Giroux been recently?

My question is, where has Giroux been recently?

He’s soon to be 37 years old, has a ton of miles on his body, and has probably realized that the team is just as bad as it was when he first signed.

I bet he hoped that at this point, he’d be playing 17 minutes a night resting his body for the playoffs while the young guys led the charge. “~60 points in the regular season should be fine… as long as I’m ready for April.”

Instead he’s playing almost 20 and we need him to be a point per game guy, one of our only two way forwards, and a top PKer.

Play like they did first ~16 games and goalies don’t play like ass and it’s possible
It probably depends on how likely you think it is that a) Sanderson starts dominating b) Ullmark is elite c) Kleven and JBD hold down the third pair d) Pinto and Greig and our secondary scoring in general get better.

Seems like a tall order for all these four things to go right while nothing else gets worse. But that’s probably what it takes.

They all with the exception of Ullmark played fine in that first part of the season. Need to get back to that

I don’t disagree, but you’re asking a lot of inconsistent players to now be consistent for 50+ games. That’s the part that’s doubtful.

It went off Hamonic, but he was lifting his leg to adjust his positioning and as a result it went right under him. Not a great goal, but they never should have got the shot, Hamonic let the guy go around him off the faceoff, which it seems we had won, if kept himself betwen that guy and the puck, there's no play there.

IMHO I think the Canes game was what really destroyed their mental state. While they were clearly outplayed in the Canes game, they kept everything to the outside and didn't allow much quality chances (And Forsberg did give up a super soft goal). But the refs being atrocious absolutely destroyed their mentality and confidence. I'm not Nostradamus, but I do feel that if the Sens lost a close game, or even in OT, they probably would have been much better mentally against their next string of opponents probably a bit above .500.

We are paying him 6-mill. I don't give a shit how old he is... he needs to bring it. This is a contract year. He has something to play for, even if it isn't another contract with us. If he just doesn't care and he's signed off, then maybe he should just consider retiring after this season? The falloff has been massive for Giroux this season and I for one am not a fan of it. He's supposed to be the veteran presence who gets us over the top. He also wears an A. He needs to show up or get out.

You can only bring what your legs have. Father time is undefeated. He’s still one of the guys who doesn’t take shifts off and is always engaged.

But you can’t expect Giroux to be our 3rd best forward anymore, playing 20 mins a night . Norris, Pinto and Batherson need to surpass him, consistently. Unfortunately two of those guys have been hit or miss this year, while the other has been terrible the entire time.

It was the two back to back losses against Philly and Carolina that killed all their momentum. It unfortunately completely sucked the life out of the arena too, I was at the Calgary game and it was a super lame crowd, I can imagine it makes it that much tougher for the players to play with intensity and passion when their home arena has crickets chirping.

If these guys need a loud arena to play with intensity and passion then we are in serious trouble.

I was at the Edmonton game. It's not a lame crowd. It's an uneasy crowd. You don't expect them to win. You want them too, hope they do and than they don't. And it's how they don't. They quit halfway through that game. You could feel it from the bench.

My question is, where has Giroux been recently?

Someone else kind of answered your question already but just based on his age and where he’s at in his career, I have lowered my expectations… he was really great 2 years ago but can’t expect him to do it again this season. He should have a support role and be our 5th/6th best forward but he’s our 4th
