I like Maurice the person, not the coach.
Gets full marks from me, for how he bowed out, because his boss, couldn't or wouldn't do what was necessary.

That being said, today my son is a quarter century old.
Don't spoil the party by getting Tkachuk'ed Jets!

Looks like your son is at least a month older than me. I don't think I'll be celebrating with a bunch of knights standing in the rain (although that might be a better alternative than snow!).

Living on the coast, we were always impressed with Paul Maurice -- or with the man who came through in the various interviews and highlight packages. He sounds like a great person and a very thoughtful, players' sort of coach. But then his record is one of lengthy mediocrity, although I've heard the arguments that he was frequently given not much to play with.

Regardless, I'm with Eryx in thinking who cares about Maurice? I just want the Jets to keep on piling up points (while the BF loves all the clips of Binnington going down the drain) and soar into the playoffs next spring.

FULL METAL JACKET that is where I know that song from!
My Gingers know it from this clip. I’ve re-enacted it (in the role of Peter)several times over the years to their laughter and lately embarrassment now that they’re teens.

I always liked Maurice (although I agree with those who say he was kept on a few seasons too long -- IMO he should have been gone against that disgrace against St. Louis, or if not then absolutely after the abortion that was the Montreal series) but having said that, Bones seems to be doing well with pretty much the identical D corps to last year.

All that said, no hate for Maurice at all ... but want the Jets to crush the Panthers because I want them to crush everyone and stay in a playoff spot. I believe if they win tonight, they will have accomplished 6 points for the current 5-game set, with a game left.

I enjoyed Eyssimont on the 2nd line last night. Giving me some Tanev-like vibes and I always liked Tanev and really feel we've been missing something since he left for greener pastures.

I would expect a warm return welcome for Paul tonight. By all accounts, he is a wonderful person and his family really embraced Winnipeg.

He really held us back the last few years as coach and near his end here, he was not getting much at all out of a very talented roster. By his own account he stopped enjoying what he was doing and kind of checked out until he decided to fire himself. It is pretty clear to most people that his tenure was several years too long, but you can't blame Paul for that. Frankly, that part of the situation is on Chevy and some stories also point to Chipman. But imho the team and the fans had to suffer through lost seasons as a result of that disfunction and Paul's final few years here.

GJG!
dont disagree with your guys' summary, he'll get cheers. i just think imagine if a player had the same sort of record, and pulled the same crap maurice did. middling results through his tenure - really below average most years, fostered a supposed toxic environment, tried to quit then subsequently quit on the team 1/4s of the way through a season. & just the cherry on top he loves them truck/train-horns.... oh well he's Florida's problem now.

hope the Jets lay the smack down on the cats tonight.

I'll take snow over rain all day, every day!
Very well said.

Don't forget, there is still time to make your guesses in the Prediction Contest thread (not here). All you have to do is pick which team will win, what the final score will be, and who will score the first goal. It's just that easy! Give it a try! :thumbu:

My evil eye is pointed more at the organization (Chevy/Chipman) than Maurice really. I mean Mo is a fair to middling coach, and there'd been talk for several seasons about the idea that a change needed to be made, and now it's looking like Maurice himself wasn't exactly feeling very good about his contribution. What the heck was keeping the people in charge from making a decision to make the change??

Due to local viewing rights, ESPN is blocked for me tonight. I can't watch the Jets feed. I have to watch the Panthers feed on the local sports channel, Bally Sports. Their coverage is so over the top homer, it's going to drive me bonkers. Fak..

Go Jets Go!
