It's a W but idk this team is still frustrating me. I know the Habs aren't great but I'm just like, why...
We allowed only 13 shots? That never happens. I mean, it's just too close for comfort. I hate ragging on a win but the team has no identity.

Complaining about winning a game and outshooting the opponent 28 to 13? People will complain about anything.

Question; last year when I watched Maccelli I was sure the guy will be an absolute top player, now he isn't getting icetime, what happened?

I think he needs better linemates, but he doesn't generally create all by himself, so if they can't handle the puck long enough nor get open, he gets swarmed. He's nothing special on defense so he might be getting saddled with more defensive guys as a result.

He's not surpassing Keller, Cooley, Guenther on the top 2 line wings. Maybe gets a shot with Schmaltz not scoring yet, but Schmaltz is superior at zone entry, so I think Maccelli is relegated to 3rd line.

Perhaps when we roll 3 full scoring lines he can shine. I think the league in general is going that direction so he may get his turn eventually.

He also doesn't penalty kill and aside from this game, they've been racking up the penalty minutes, a lot and often.

Game was a good one. They have improved the power play significantly, but it still needs some more work. You can see the progress. Montreal was really good at closing up shooting lanes and still defending the pass. I hope they can take something from that, because it was impressive. They still could beat it if they were a hair quicker though, but that's what happens when you're 5 versus 4.

They cut back on penalties too. I think Lamoureux is playing well. He probably isn't getting the benefit of the doubt either because he is so big and he's a rookie. I'm sure he was talked to about it, but he's also solidly in the starting defensive core and should continue.

Dominic Moore is great as an analyst. It's good to actually get some analysis on the broadcast that isn't something overly obvious or too simple. He'll get into Guenther positioning and pass timings on the powerplay and then have to explain the delay of game for a defensive puck over the glass, which is funny how he has adapt his performance to a wide audience.

At this juncture, 17 assists on a team that can’t score is pretty solid boys.
0 goals from your first line winger isn't. Schmaltz has more GVA/60 than any forward on this team not named LOB, and Doan is the only player on this team who has more TKA/60 than GVA/60. Josh Doan always gave it is all when here.

They do know they played Montreal.....don't they? Oh well, a win is a win.

Bear split up Maccelli, Bugs and the Crouse line for most of the year. That line didn't get much TOI last night. Maybe Bear is sending them a message.

Maccelli is not good on D, thats why he plays less minutes then other wingers.

The stat man has spoken! Just like Hayton last year, you give Schmaltz zero credit for the rest of his game. Our major problem is team D, Schmaltz is our best defensive winger or maybe Crouse, they are part of the solution. Schmaltz does need to pot some goals for sure, I agree, but a few more goals from Schmaltz doesn't solve our D problems. Games like last night when we out shoot the other team 28-13 need to happen more often. Our D was much better then the Habs or maybe theres was way worse, we need more games like that.

Their goalie actually played well …we do tend to advertise our plays, which allows them to block a lot of our shots… but the goalie kept them in it

I think a lot of Maccelli ‘s points came on the PP last year .. but if you look at our PP this year … the number one unit rarely comes off …. If they do , it is usually with mere seconds left for the 2nd unit…

I am just glad Cooley got moved up to that unit , because he was rarely seeing PP time

This is true, they typically get to come on the ice with less than 40 seconds remaining and they still have to enter the zone and with out squad, they typically fail the first time, so by the time they finally set it up in the zone, they have less than 15 seconds to do something

That being said, Maccelli hasn't stepped up like last season - still needs to go to the net more. He's still young and learning, but without upgrading his defensive game, he'll never get opportunity for top 2 lines.

I'd like to see a line with Maccelli/Doan/Crouse and let them gel for a couple weeks

I'm not complaining. A win isn't a negative. It's just, you know, they beat a bottom feeder. And Utah isn't that great either. And lost to Toronto who barely had to do anything. Now it's Edm and Vegas back to back? Buckle up.

You beat a bottom feeder and you get the same 2 points if you beat the Wild or the Jets. When playoffs roll around, it's where you stand that counts, not which teams you beat to get those points.
