I fell asleep and watched most of the second and all of the third on DVR this morning.

The Bruins are pretty mediocre, but they’re still better than the Red Wings. And that’s good, because you really don’t want to be the Red Wings.

I think Dylan Larkin just lost another offensive zone face off.
LOL that stupid face off win-o-meter or whatever the hell it’s called never seemed like a Bruin was over 45% to win a draw all night. That was in spite of the Wings getting shredded at the dot.

My degenerate side was screaming at me to go get a gambling account and start paying for my kitchen reno’s one draw at a time.

Vancouver, @NYI, Pittsburgh this week...3 very winnable games coming up. Especially Pittsburgh. They've been dreadful
Gotta hand it to management. If you shitcan coach, do it when schedule is soft.

Bruins winning against Utah and Detroit shouldn’t be a big deal but they NEED to right the ship to build confidence. Weak opposition and dead coach bounce is super helpful. If they can continue this next stretch as you say, might be enough to make season a lot better.

Say what you want about this roster, it is a LOT better than the results to date. Confidence, or lack thereof, is a mysterious thing.

Monty hired by blues.

Blues fire head coach Bannister, hire Montgomery
Damn. That was quick. Was Monty trying to get fired?

Only half joking, to be honest.

The number of recent bashed roster moves that are bearing fruit. Peeke, Kastelic, Korpi (after the Goalie Bob chip inserted into his brain).
Did anyone notice Sacco had Koepke (speed, maybe a Jake replacement on PK) playing PK. Just trying things that Monty could try..........like keeping guys together long enough to click.
It's obvious Monty never had to panic in Boston before this year. (IN THE REGULAR SEASON!)
But his coaching in the PO's should have foreshadowed his demise. Not a steady hand coach.
He was a frontrunner from the go here. We never saw him have to adjust and when he needed to he couldn't.

Monty and Clode, oh my!!! a Boston reject two-fer

I'll be the negative nelly, his lazy stick check led to the first goal. He should've played the body.

Yes, that was not good. Everyone makes mistakes, even Bergeron did. I think Brad still has it as a player, but not at the same level he used to be. I wish he would stop trying to dangle and self-pass around guys. It almost never works for him anymore.

Marchy's problem is he still thinks he's at the same level he used to be. Making no adjustments to his game. He may not be capable of that. Post game last night, "yeah that was a terrible penalty to take, need to be smarter there". How many times have we heard that from him.

Glad they won, but boy that was just some overall awfully boring hockey by both teams last night. They are beating teams they should which is good, now the next step is beating teams they are supposed to be competitive with. Still not convinced they have turned a corner yet, but better effort is a good start so far

Agreed- it was a bit of a snoozer and some of the issues are still there. I didn't expect the team to all of sudden look different because they changed the coach. It will take some time, but it does look like the players seem more committed to whatever Sacco is asking from them.

You wonder the reason the “new coach” bump happens a lot in sports is that the players fear they are next to move if they don’t perform better, so they initially play with more effort at the beginning to establish a new pecking order with the coach. Sometimes that renewed effort sticks or sometimes it wears off. So I am curious where they will be in months time

Nice ceremony for Joe Thornton tonight.

Should have mentioned this in the GDT, but they're out there retiring Thornton's number and I can't even remember what number Wayne Primeau wore. Team would be so much better if we had traded him for assets we could have built around. Only two goals tonight. :madfire:
At the time, Sturm and Stuart weren’t awful return pieces but if they got the Sharks 21 year old prospect named Joe Pavelski instead of career 4th liner Wayne Primeau, that would have been something.

They need to figure out how to generate more offense. A PP goal in each of the last 3 games is nice, but Marchand’s goal was the only one 5v5 they’ve scored in those games.
The games against Buffalo loom large
