This is all kind of relieving. The leadership group was being held together by a string and it's unraveling all at once. This isn't a slow drowning, this is a waterfall. Good! Emotionally investing in this year is a fools errand, so at least we know it's off the rails this early in the year. Figure out who is worth building around and go for the rebuild.

I forgot what day this was and figured it was a 7pm start, so I missed the game. In the spirit of the season, I'm thankful for that. So, who sucked today?

Everyone? Cool. Thanks.

There should no untouchables on this team. None. Get rid of the dead weight, even if it hurts us cap wise for the next few years, and build a real roster.

We had Torts and a bunch of fruits here melted down daily about him being such a MEANY.

It was vomitus here.

I was here during Torts' entire run. I don't remember people critiquing him for being "mean." The main criticism I remember is that, even after the team brought in some skill/finesse players, he insisted on making them play his 5-goalie system. He refused to adjust his system to his personnel. I think he even said as much at one point.

Mika's post game interview. Saying how they have to find a way.
You know the way? Sinking a shot 1 foot away with the goalie beat. Maybe thats the way.
Maybe dont whiff and hit the side of the net with 30 seconds left in the game.

You didn't miss much. Shesty was good. Cuylle and Berard were good. Schneider was solid. Trocheck looked a bit more like his old self. Nobody else really stood out (in a positive way at least).

Forget for just one second the fact that we're a steaming hot pile of shit right now.

We just got absolutely Tortsf***ed by the Philadelphia Meat Shields.

That was as classic of a Torts performance as I've ever seen in my life. The old 6 goalie system.

You ever watch a UFC fight where one guy just absolutely grapplef***s the other guy and it's like watching paint dry? That's John Tortorella hockey to a T. Oh by the way... it doesn't work in the playoffs. Guy has been coaching for 70 f***ing years and has 1 cup. At that point you're simply bound to win one.

If we brought our best game today, we still would've won but it would've been a grind regardless. The way we came out in the 1st? This team is beyond cooked.

Seriously though, they need to scratch Trouba. If he's going to continue to be a whiny bitch and a -3 every night because he's mad we want to get rid of him for not playing up to his contract, f***ing sit him. Give the spot to a kid and get him out of that locker room. We're losing anyway; let someone get some experience.

Here's the problem with this core. They dodged accountability answering to the media then Kreider had his little 60 minutes interview saying all the right things.

Well at this point the only thing these guys are good at is talking a big game. They don't ever change how they play the game. How they prepare or start. They don't support each other offensively or defensively. They will sit there and gladly show another coach out the door because Dolan gave them the keys to the country club and said "just turn off the lights when you go home"

Kreider and Fox had major life events happen over the Summer and look like hockey isn't a priority anymore. Same goes for Mika. Trouba chose his wife's profession over the team and organization. These guys don't give a f about any of us and it's clear they don't give a f about doing what it takes to become Champions.

Really glad I didn't get up at 5am for this one. That 1st period was one of the most laughably inept things I've ever seen, and it really didn't get a whole lot better. Once again we weren't ready to go from puck drop. Once again we looked like we couldn't make a single pass. Once again we failed at all the fundamentals of positioning. Once again we look like we have no concept about what 'defence' is.

They should have scored at least 8, Shesty was huge in this one. Schneider was the only D who looked solid for the whole game. Fox really struggled at times and Lindgren looks like can barely skate at times. Trouba and Miller have 6 braincells between them and that's probably being generous.

Beard struggles with his passes at times but at least he kept working. Cuylle was up and down, had probably his worst shift of the year and then immediately followed it up with the great shift that lead to the Tro goal.
What's slightly alarming is that I'm already looking at Berard and Cuylle to be the guys that make the plays and change momentum rather than our former #1 and #2 overall. If we are talking about gutting the vets and turning over this roster, when are Laf and KK going to stand up and be difference makers? Both of them are playing steady hockey, but neither of seem to be doing anything that says "I'll help drag us out of this funk". Neither seem to be the guy who can drive a line.
Laf is back to being a guy that makes a nice play or 2 but is unnoticable for large stretches of the game and indistinguishable from any random 2-line winger. KK is still just a guy who is good at getting and protecting the puck, but can't score.

As a team they are checked out.
