WTF happened to him? Serious question . . . it's not just confidence, is it?
Weren't you the one who said HCMS didn't want him with Geno and Phil because he's not skilled enough? Add in spending most of the season bouncing up and down the line-up and a healthy scratch ... sounds like a confidence thing to me. Leave him with Geno and Phil, he'll be fine eventually. I think. Maybe.

It could be the NHL finally reached the tipping point where 98% of the goals are now scored off of a tip, traffic or a rebound and this is our HUGE weakness.

Brutal PP. what the hell was Sid doing?

You know, I'm a lot less concerned about what individual players are doing and am a lot more concerned about the lack of support on zone entries, the Pens constantly being outnumbered in isolated puck battles, and the overall lack of player movement on the PP. Top offensive talent is neutralized by design.

I don't disagree. He just annoyed me on that PP with the weird double clutch and then the moronic shot off Crawford from bad angle with no one in front. Just a terrible PP overall.

The difference in this game so far is the power play. After improving our ES goals, our PP has gone in the toilet

My favorite was the zone entry where Geno gets the puck coming into the zone with a guy at a 45 degree angle and a guy in front of him and literally his only option is to try to force the puck through two guys, four skates, and two sticks to Jake, who's further down the wall. I'm sorry, but if you're giving Geno the puck entering the zone and he's outnumbered as he receives the puck just over the blueline, there's a pretty fundamental design problem.

I really don't get it. The Pens are on a PP. Meaning they have 1 more guy than the other team out there. And in those isolated battles for the puck, they are outnumbered more often than not. Just pathetic.

We're not down by ten goals.

Baby steps.

Is there another PP that collectively overthinks everything as much as this group? They're trying to play chess out there when a PP really is just checkers. You have an extra man. Use the extra man. Spreading out and passing around the perimeter until someone decides to take a telegraphed one-timer does nothing to exploit the numbers advantage.

You still have to work for the puck even on the power play.

Of course you do, but when the Pens are routinely outnumbered in isolated battles on the PP in the offensive zone, it isn't just a work issue.

Exactly...movement but with some deception....and just shoot and get in front of the net. Why do these simple tasks bedevil us?

You need player movement to create isolated 2 on 1's in higher danger scoring areas.

This is why I see a coaching problem. When there's so little movement every PP, when guys are outnumbered in isolated battles in the offensive zone, when there's so little puck support for zone entries, and when you can count on 1 finger the number of Pens standard breakouts, it's a coaching issue.

Frankly, Sully should go to Gonchar and tell him he's in charge and to start from scratch.

I think if they get shutout tonight it will be the first time this season. I can’t say it would be surprising if Chicago did it to them.

It would hardly be the first time Chicago has done it to them.

have the Pens had easy win this season? Off the top of my head I can only recall Game #3 against Nashville. It's either loss or difficult win.
