There's something up with what these players are being coached, players don't just make a pass like that unless they are low iq players or they are being coached to. And Parayko is very very far from a low IQ player.

At least offensively, Parayko is a very low IQ player.
He's really only got like 3 "plays" offensively. Bomb from the point, dump the puck behind the net or pass to the opposite point man.
When he tries to "skate with it and make a move", it almost always ends up going the other way.

He's been one of my faves for the last couple seasons, but, this season, he's been mostly bleh.
