I don't agree with the generic veteran backup strategy in general which is obviously Nill's preferred route. I think you want a younger guy (younger than your starter) who sees himself as a future starter. You need that drive, or pushing from below even if they also struggle at times.

I agree, but I think the problem is the Stars haven’t drafted any other good goalies.

Draft wise he hasn't been able to find that guy, and he doesn't have the money for a better backup trying to earn more time.

12-15-2018 after he was hurt fighting Tkachuk. He then fell off again pretty hard in 2022-23 and he has not since recovered his mojo.

The PP sucking I firmly plant on coaching, but it's also the team probably not playing particularly crisply. They thrive on garbage collection and chaos, not precision strikes.
